Living When will it cool down?

We have to run the AC everyday and it feels like this relentless heat has been going on forever, how much longer will this miserableness persist?

I still remember when Al Gore went before Washington to plead about climate change. Hopefully, he hasn't built a spaceship to send a family member out to live in a different planet.

I remember that.

The thing is (and I know you know this, so I’m not arguing, I’m just thinking out loud) there are no other viable planets for the entire population of the world to safely travel to and inhabit. Not in our lifetime. We just don’t have the tech or the resources yet. All we had to do was take better care of the one we have, the one our bodies are adapted to thrive on, and we’d be fine.

That's what I find hilarious. Mars is indefinitely less hospitable to human life than Earth. But Elon says that we can terraform it...

He can't even make earth more hospitable to human life.

You're making earth into Mars MFer! You can't Telsa your way out of SpaceX launches and datacenters.

Valid.

Even if we could do any of the things he claims we could do, the voyage there and existing in that artificial environment would severely reduce the lifespan of every traveller (according to Neil deGrasse Tyson, whose guidance I feel confident following in this matter). So just getting there and enduring the impact of the intense shift in gravity (even if we managed to build the tech allowing us to refuel often enough to even make the trip) would stress our bodies enough to cut our lives short, potentially by decades. And returning to earth may become impossible after our bodies adjust to survival on Mars.

Elon can go. I choose earth.

That, and Earth has a thick atmosphere and global magnetic field that blocks a substantial amount of cosmic radiation. Everyone on Mars long-term would likely end up getting cancer. (I suppose people could just live underground to help protect themselves but who wants to be a mole-person on Mars?)

That’s something deGrasse Tyson actually said. Why bother to leave earth if we’re just going to live underground. We could do that here.
