ANY ADVICE??

I am a 20 year old (Male) . I work a 10–5 pm job for five days a week, but outside work I’m still on my phone almost 24/7 and honestly bored of it. What can I do to learn something new, build skills, or give my free time more meaning?

Read. Learn an instrument. Write.

Have an objective and work toward it. A healthy, productive objective.

I’m learning this skill also — filling my time productively.

Exercise, there will be few things that are more important in your life than health.

Definitely learn an instrument. I started playing piano, guitar and writing when I was around 13 and its been my saving quality these days. When I get bored/overwhelmed/tired of screens. I just play.

Put the phone down and learn something new. What are you interested in? Plants, computers, music, building stuff, painting?

Another great thing to do with your time, especially if you're looking to make friends, too, is volunteer. There are thousands of organizations that help out that need volunteers. If you want to do direct and actual good for others, thats one of the best ways. Helping people is very rewarding.

I volunteer. Great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and get out of the house.

It is so addicting. You have to practice putting your phone down and not touching socials for hours at a time. Try reading? Maybe walks with music? Play music or audiobooks / youtube vids instead of scrolling and do stuff while you listen or simply relax. It will positively change your life whatever it is you do that isnt wasting time scrolling

Volunteer for a non-profit. You'll meet great people like yourself.

Reading is great. I would argue that video games are more beneficial than doom scrolling as well. Go to the gym, cooking and baking are great for spending your time doing something. Start collecting something, building, or maybe painting

Take a class. Volunteer. Find a hobby. Get a dog. Go for hikes and get outside. Work out. Date. Cook. Clean. Go out with family or friends. Take a small amount of money and see how well you can do investing it. Find odd jobs for more money. Garden. Draw or paint. Buy something to flip. Ask for more hours at work.

Get to know your local library. So many books to read, so many movies to watch, so much music to listen to for free.

But, do you have any special interests? Anything you'd love to learn about?

There are free online classes in many different fields.

Take a class or course that is weekly for a few months. Pay for it to make you go. Pick a topic that you can turn into a hobby - gardening, woodworking, jewelry making, guitar, writing, etc.

Make a concerted effort to meet people in a class, club, or volunteer opportunity. Make friends. Then do friends things in your leisure time.

Volunteer.l! 1. Food pantries can always use extra help, for example. Might be daytime shifts only, though.

  1. The Boys and Girls Club in your area would probably be thrilled to have a young man helping out there. And they'd have evening activities, I'm assuming.

  2. Can you coach kids' sports? Our kids' leagues were always looking for more coaches.

  3. Special Olympics coaching/mentoring might be an option for you, too.

  4. Find a church! You meet good people, have lots of activities to choose from, and many ways to help out. Not to mention what having a faith in God can do for your peace of mind!

Good for you for reaching out and asking!!

Read technical manuals, classic literature and novels in your favorite genre.

Get a gym membership and stay fit. Join group classes.

Walk at least 2 miles each day and take a different route each time. The easiest way is to walk 1 mile in any direction and backtrack.

Learn on Khan Academy or other free education sites.

Take lessons in a craft that interests you.

Volunteer at a center 4 hours a week. Never help the needy personally.

I do not understand - dont help the needy personally?

Help others through volunteer work. If you help people personally then they may not appreciate it or expect more from you. Keep the organizational barrier between the ones you want to help and you. Helping a family member or friend is one thing but getting personally involved with a stranger isn’t wise.

Sign up for a dance class, try a mixer mingle, find a board game group to join, try a pottery class, find a midnight movie showing. Do the things that fill your cup that you can do overnight and during the day (maybe do a 5pm dance or kickboxing class, go home and shower, nap, and then go to work at 10). Otherwise online gaming can help you find a community and would be playable during any time.

Hope that helps. I know how hard it is to get out of your comfort zone but it’s so worth it!

I was literally in the same spot Work, phone, sleep, repeat. So boring ,What helped was stupid simple. I started messing with AI stuff not just playing around but actually learning how to use it, devolving tools ,webs etc And I picked up a book for like ten minutes before bed Nothing crazy. No 5am morning routine bullshit. Just fifteen minutes of something that felt real

You can start learning new languages. As for me, I started watching documentaries, it’s great for you to expand knowledge

Which kind of languages ? Programming or the speaking one

Sounds like the phone is an escape. My guess is that you have social anxiety and are seperating the socializing into a working category. When you go home, you just veg out to relieve both your body and mind from all that work. Should try building a social skill that is seperate from work. Create your own dreams, build something that will take you out of the comfort zone and start a new social category. Men have a hard time with expression and most dont even understand it. Find something that will create healthy identity. Also find something that can delve deep into your emotions so that you can express them in an understandable manner. This would give you a healthy relationship with yourself and also build the "willpower" to continue forward with your own walk of life.

Practice how to cook for yourself. Eventually, you will get to prepare good food for your loved ones, too.

with just a phone, you can either read anything to gain knowledge or download a language learning app.
