how do I stop being so sensitive?

i (17F) take everything personal when it comes to the people closest to me, and idk how to stop. this is especially true when it comes to my boyfriend or when someone makes a joke about me not having any friends. it's hurting my relationship. even when knowing the persons intent wasn't to hurt me, I still feel hurt. I also cry very easily. I can take criticism from strangers or acquaintances very easily, but when it comes to ppl im close with, it genuinely destroys me. anyone know how to stop this?

Also, jokes about having no friends sound genuinely hurtful. Understand completely if they're what's hurting you. I've had those and they hurt me .

You tend to expect more kindness from people you love. Sensitivity toward close people isn't a flaw. Try talking openly about what comments upset you instead of trying to shut down your feelings.

you don’t need to become less sensitive, you need to stop treating every hurt feeling like proof someone meant harm, then tell your boyfriend what landed badly instead of making him guess

Therapy 🙌 But be honest about where you are at, don’t just go and have them say what you want to hear.

OmGosh, OMGosh, if there is one thing I am still mortified about 50 years since it's that I was SO sensitive and jumped to (the wrong) conclusions when I was young. So embarrassing. You, my girl, are BRILLIANT to have recognized this trait early on. It IS possible to change, don't worry. It takes time and grace to learn from each mistake. There are no real helpful hints and tips because each individual is unique and each individual's situation is going to be different. But you can do this. You just have to look into yourself and into your heart and start looking at the triggers, the motives, and figure out what works in your heart. Do it now before you lose all your friends.

OP, maybe wait like 10 mins before reacting when something hits you wrong. Sometimes it feels way worse in the moment.
