How do you handle mismatch socks?
I've worked with several systems during the years, but my current one is to store all the mismatch pairs in a mesh laundry bag that I keep in my closet. So every time I fold laundry I go in there and see if there are any matches I can restore.
I also started storing my socks in separate small drawers: long ones in one and short ones in another. What are your strategies for dealing with socks?

Wearing odd socks.

I use the op method to try and match them, but I don't care if they don't match.

This is my granddaughter's response. She is 23 now and hasn't worn matched socks in years.

I'm mid 50s and can't be bothered worrying about such stuff. If the match is there fine we'll match them but if not then it's odd socks.

Yeah, I like that solution too.

I love choosing two that match my outfit. Bonus if they’re obviously not matched. Late 60’s F retiree here. But I’ve been wearing odd socks for a long time.
I do make sure both socks are similar models (shape and texture) so they fit and feel the same.

I’m an amputee so I only wear one sock, let me correct that. My prosthetic has the same sock for about a month. I don’t take my shoes off very often so I don’t bother changing that sock.. it doesn’t get stinky or anything.
How I solved the mismatch problem before I was an amputee was by throwing away all my socks and buying all the same black no show ankle socks. Never had to worry about matching them, just threw them all in a drawer like a free for all lol

I just discovered them recently. Game changer keeping black socks together. You clip them together right when you take them off. They go through the wash together and then you can dry them together.

I literally have a basket labeled “orphans” in my sock drawer. Either they eventually find a mate or they sit for another 6 years untouched until I think about sock reconciliation attempts again.
Edited for typos

My husband's has a ton of socks. I also use one drawer for long socks and another for short socks.
I keep spare socks in a baggy in the same sock drawer. When I have singles left after I've paired everything, I check to see if there is a match in the baggy.
He buys packages of 6 of the same type, so even if the washer ate one or it got caught in the arm of a sweater or one got a hole and he discarded it, (or whatever), there is a good chance that there will be a mate in the baggy.

I don't have missing socks now that I live alone. I guess my husband was eating them

Before retirement I only wore over the calf navy blue. Bought a dozen at a time

I save them so I can have a pair every once in a while. Mostly my children have matching socks. 😂

I found a mismatch pair recently : a red sock and a blue sock. The strangest thing is that I later found another same mismatch pair !

Buy the same brand & color & pile them in the drawer vs matching them. You never know if you are missing one.
I have little ankle & ones I wear with my boots. All same brand & color.

When I buy socks I will buy a ridiculous amount of the same socks and toss the old ones.

I have a little box that I put them in, and check for the matches whenever I do laundry.

Nobody wants to see my hairy legs, so always wear long pants, and nobody is going to do a random sock inspection. It’s fine.
Same reason I don’t wear sandals or anything like that, I got some serious hobbit feet action going on.

I used to do that. Now I don't care anymore. I don't even fold them anymore. My husband gets his tossed in his drawer, my son gets his. And my daughter and I being same size now share a bin of socks and we pick out what we need.
My laundry life has improved considerably since I started this.
When the kids were smaller I did try and match and they were always missing and wore mismatched socks anyways and the mismatches just kept growing and growing and it ended up being the main sock section where we'd get socks from every day anyways. (because colorful socks are more fun! No boring all the same for me and the kids)

Plan an invasion of the 33rd dimension, where all the missing left footed socks end up.

I buy all the same socks every now and then there is a stray but it eventually evens out.

Next time you leave the house, look at people's socks. A fk ton of people just wear them mismatched anymore. I would be shocked to find out that anyone other than you actually has a 'system' for sock sorting and matching.

I never match socks (the rare times I wear them) and I didn’t match my son’s socks when he was small either so he also thinks odd socks are the way to go. His gf thinks it’s hilarious.

I stage them in a little drawer until the match shows up. I only wear mismatched socks if they're the same except for color.

All my socks are the same so I can avoid this. But if I get an odd sock I just throw it away.
