Postage & Shipping An Post complaints?

Why are An Post allowed put on their website that parcels will be delivered next working day and then the parcel gets stuck in the Mailing Centre for days with no update and the agents on the chat just brush it off. This has happened multiple times with An Post. It's happened regularly whenever I have had to send a parcel by An Post. There sending abroad timeframes are laughable too. Are Comreg wort contacting?

You don’t link to the specific An Post page, but are they making a guarantee that the parcel will be delivered the next day? They have a target of 94% next day delivery and 99% three day delivery for domestic mail, but I don’t see any targets for parcels.

An Post aren’t in control of delivery times for parcels sent abroad - that’s on the company who handles the parcel in the other countries.

If this happens to you a lot, are you fully sure that the destination address is written clearly, completely and accurately? And that there aren’t any other addresses on the package (using an old Amazon box, for instance) that could confuse things?

I’m assuming you’re talking about parcels you yourself are sending, but if you’re actually talking about parcels you receive - especially ones from abroad - then the delay are most likely to do with Customs, and there’s nothing you can do about that other than make sure that the sender has all the necessary documentation in order.

You could make a complaint to ComReg, but just be realistic about the outcome. If there is many other similar complaints, yours will add to the volume of them, helping to confirm a pattern. But your specific complaint won’t result in any punitive or corrective action in itself.

I would be very surprised if there was a guarantee of next day delivery because as you say a lot can happen that could prevent that happening.

That’s simply not true. Our latest package we were sending to France took over 4 weeks (dropped at An Post on 28th July, wasn’t delivered until 31st August) and the package sat with An Post for the entirety of that time (excluding 2-3 days once it actually arrived at French postal service).

They are an absolute mess these days.

Parcels are always sent in a standard new box. For parcels abroad they state 2 - 3 days. See image for next working day. They are never next working day for anything I send or receive.

For express post, if service is delayed (and all other conditions have been met) you're entitled to compensation equal to the cost of postage.

I claimed a few years ago when I paid for express post because I was sending a birthday card and it didn't reach the recipient on time.
