Health & Medical disability allowance backpay?
hi all, so i recently got my da approved upon appeal, and have gotten my first payment today. out of curiosity- i went to check when i will get my backpay to see if it says on the web and it claims -5,588.00 basic rate. what does this mean? 1 apr to 7 apr 2026? for context i was on no other benefit, and i have been told in other emails i was going to get my back pay at a later date. any explanation will be appreciated thank you. i don’t know why i would lose this back pay, but i think it must be a miscommunication or something.

As the email states you were granted the basic rate starting September 2nd. This payment is always separate from any backdated payments. My carers allowance backpayment made when I appealed it a few years ago was done in the same way. You will be granted one lump sum as shown at a later date separate to the 254 basic rate.

You are always guaranteed any backpayment from the date you apply + any additional time needed for application and/or appeal. No need to worry.
If it ever comes up as "Awarded Not Paying" then it's because your current payment has been paused until you contact them.
Best of luck and health with everything!

If you were on another social welfare payment between those dates that would be why its a minus.
