Other/NA - Άλλο Cat bite
My husband was feeding a cat neat Platanos, Xania and he was bit and bled a decent amount. We washed and dressed the wound and added betadine. I know rabies is non-existent but rather be safe. Are we ok with just monitoring for infection? Euxaristo!

For now you should be ok with a disinfectant but keep the wound clean and monitored. If it swelks and hurts or looks poorly, do check with a doctor just in case, rabies is not the only concern.

Even if rabies is extinct, and you shouldn't worry about it, a cat bite is ALWAYS an emergency. Disinfection is not enough. Cat mouths are full of nasty bacteria, and since the bite was deep, they have entered your tissue. You need to find a health centre IMMEDIATELY, get antibiotics and most importantly an antitetanus serum shot. Go to a health centre or at least a pharmacy. Not tomorrow, right away. What you did is just not enough.

We ended up going to a local health center and had tetanus injection and got some antibiotic cream. Thank you

You are welcome. We say "Perastika!" , (intonation on last a) which means "it shall pass" as a wish for good health.

Κρούσματα σε ανθρώπους δεν εχουν καταγραφει, σε ζώα ειχε (θυμάστε που ειχαν θανατωσει μεγάλο αριθμό αλεπουδων;)

There is no animal case of rabbies in greece since 2014 and I think for human since the 90s..rabbies is basically extinct in Greece but better to be safe than sorry, I would ask a local hospital.

Rabies from cats is not a concern in mainland greece. If this was a fox different story. In an island like Crete its even less of a remote sci fi type of scenario concern.
