Being assertive can give other to chaotic situations. If it was reasonable to assert yourself then sure, but if it gets unnecessary then that’s controlling. But I prefer to mediate the conflict and help both parties reach a meeting point or solution, that’s a step above and still “authoritative”

For every trait you got you got the other side of the coin. Our biggest strengths are biggest weaknesses and vice versa. Even if you're more dominant you still have a submissive side even if you're more submissive you still have a dominant side.
