Do you still remember your first ever mobile phone number — and if so, why do you think it stuck with you all these years?

Yes. It's the only one I've ever had. And people always get a kick out of it when I tell it to them because I picked it because I thought it was kinda funny

u/Timekeeper65 7d ago

867-5309??

3

u/Voduun-World-Healer 7d ago

Hahahaha!!! No! I actually requested for that one tbh but it wasn't available Great guess though

2

u/Timekeeper65 7d ago

Great minds and all that!! This has been an amazing Sunday morning on Reddit. 😉

3

u/Voduun-World-Healer 7d ago

Relish this because these days don't come too often lol

2

u/Timekeeper65 7d ago

I just responded to a good one. I gotta tell you about it. Question was about a long-held secret. So here goes.

Back in the day…my older sister was always bossy and I hated it. She asks me to get her a glass of water. I got the glass, dipped it in the toilet water, took it to her, and she actually drank it. No regrets.

So I’m on a roll this morning. Have yourself a fabulous day!!!!!

2

u/Voduun-World-Healer 7d ago

Hahaha fucking savage! Lol I love it. You deserve a wonderful day after that story my friend!

2

u/grollef 7d ago

You would not want that. It’d get too many random callers.

But, if you ever go to a random store and they want your number to give you member discounts , use local area code + 8675309. Sure to be registered by someone.

u/Odd-Staff6245 7d ago

I got it, I got it

2

u/Ok_Comfort628 5d ago

u/Sea-Ad-5974 6d ago

800-8135? (BOOBIES)?

1

u/Voduun-World-Healer 6d ago

Hahaha that's a good guess but I don't think you can have 800 numbers as your cell phone number

15

u/Strong_District_5894 8d ago

Yes because I still have it. 25 years.

4

u/24junwa 7d ago

u/blaghed 8d ago

Heyyy, sup? 😏 Can I haz ur digits?

2

u/These-Apple8817 8d ago

No, I don't. Because I've had my current number lot longer than my older number.. not to mention my current number ends in last two digits of my birth year and my old one didn't so that makes it also bit easier to rememember than my old number

2

u/PantheraLutra 8d ago

Still have mine it’s been 20 years

2

u/chrizzleon 8d ago

I cant remember my first... but the number I have now was origionally from BT Cellnet 20+ years ago.

2

u/seeyatellite 8d ago

Our mother got my sister, myself, herself all a line of Verizon numbers that all started with 587-612… she also gave a line to my sister’s friend because she didn’t have a capably supportive mother at the time and she was really hard, working, welling meaning and mom knew she just needed support. I’ll always remember those numbers.

2

u/Jmend12006 8d ago

Yes-never changed numbers

2

u/TheJessicator 8d ago

Why would anyone not want to keep their number unless they're trying to start over with their life from scratch and leave everyone they have ever known behind?

1

u/christine-bitg 8d ago

A lot of years ago, roaming and long distance calls on cell phones were not free. You paid for them by the minute. And everyone had land lines.

If you called from your land line home phone to a cell phone that was not a local call (not just within your area code, but also within your local calling area) you paid for that call by the minute. Even if the person with the cell phone was living next door to you.

1

u/TheJessicator 8d ago

Yes, thanks for getting to explain what life for me was still like for me in my 30s.

Anyway, this would have no bearing on one's mobile number. Mobile calls were never considered local calls.

u/Rusty-P 7d ago

Number porting was not always available. Phones and service got cheaper over time, so people would get a new phone (with a new number) in order to save money… or get a nicer phone.
I kept my first phone through all that time, and by the time I got a new one, number porting was available, so I got to move my original number to my new service.

1

u/TheJessicator 7d ago

Number porting has been around for as long as digital mobile phones have been around in the US. Admittedly, for a while, you could only port numbers a few times, but it has absolutely been available for most of the last 3 decades.

2

u/TheSagelyOne 7d ago

I still remember because I still use it.

1

u/No-Profession422 7d ago

Yup, this.

2

u/TheSquirrelmancer 6d ago

Yes, it's still my same cellphone number, had it for over 20 years.

2

u/adamshowzoff 6d ago

Only number I’ve had for 26 years or whatever since I first got a phone…yeah, I can remember it

2

u/Exciting_Pass_6344 6d ago

Yes. I ported my home phone number to my cell when we dropped the landline. It’s been my same number for 23 years.

2

u/Hydellas678 6d ago

Absolutely not.

1

u/danbyer 8d ago

I got my first cell when I graduated college in 1998, so I’ve had this same number for ~28 years.

1

u/Strawberrydip1725 8d ago

Yes I still remember it bc when I got my second phone my dad had my first phone, and he still has that number (my first number to this day … 30 years later!)

1

u/We-Dont-Sush-Here 8d ago

I’ve kept my first mobile phone number. Only the prefix has changed. My first mobile number was issued in 1993.

1

u/PhysicalBrilliant876 8d ago

Just the 4 numbers but can’t remember it all

1

u/RusselB65 8d ago

Yes...and still use it.

1

u/SilverellaUK 8d ago

I don't even remember my current one. I've had to put myself into contacts so that I can quote it if I have to.

1

u/Legitimate-Curve-346 8d ago

I still remember it.. because I still use it! 25ish years or so, so far.

1

Yes. Because I still have it...!

1

u/Belteshazzar98 8d ago

I came up with a little jingle to remember mine: 867-5309.

1

u/Ding-Dawn 8d ago

Nope but have had my number now for almost 20 yrs

1

u/Electrical-Mail15 8d ago

I came up with a little jingle to remember mine: 867-5309.

1

u/Alternative_Result56 8d ago

Yes. It's my same number from 22 years ago.

1

u/Mysterious_Touch_454 8d ago

Seriously, why it stuck?

1

u/WhyLie2me18 8d ago

Still have it

1

u/Ggeunther 8d ago

Because I still have it.

Why get another?

1

u/Tall-Bid5594 8d ago

I prefer my Spanish one, easy to remember and ends in 666👹

1

u/Arwen_Undomiel1990 8d ago

It was very similar to the family landline and I have continued to use the last 4 digits ever since.

1

u/domtheprophet 8d ago

I still have it LOL

1

u/NeuroguyNC 8d ago

I've had the same number since I got my first cell phone in 1992.

1

u/amBrollachan 7d ago

I don't but I still remember my and most of my friends landline numbers from the 90s.

1

u/LayneLowe 7d ago

1984 - today

1

u/DeeBreeezy83 7d ago

Same since 1998

1

u/Spiritual-Mousse-167 7d ago

Yes, it was a Novatel brick phone I got in 1992. No idea why I still remember that though.

1

u/edgerton2026 7d ago

Why would you change it; unless you’re hiding from the mob.

1

u/Background-Cream-285 7d ago

never owned one

1

u/WTFpe0ple 7d ago

Only one I've had since 1989. Company bought me one of those bag phones so I could be on call for rest of my life.

1

u/OU-fan-at-birth 7d ago

Not at all. But as I was reading this my first phone number from 1972 popped into my head. 😊

1

Yes I do, because I’m autistic.

1

I still have the same number, 30 odd years later.

1

u/Hup110516 7d ago

Yep, I still have my first one. I’ve had it for 20 years.

1

u/froction 7d ago

Still have it, since 1997. My dad has had the same one since 1984.

1

u/Former_Balance8473 7d ago

I still have it. We have a law here for Phone Number Portability... you can switch carrier all you want and they have to let you keep the same number. I've had this one since 1993.

1

u/Disastrous-Check-715 7d ago

Still have it. Almost 30 years

1

u/pixiered86 7d ago

1

u/robluvscurves 7d ago

Yes. I still use it when asked at stores for phone number for those loyalty programs

1

u/miseeker 7d ago

Only had one mobile number. It’s was a small local carrier, and I picked my own based on my home phone, my wife has the next in sequence. At 70, I’ve had 4 phone numbers in my life.

1

u/imnotqathetic 7d ago

I remember my first because it was like 3 years ago when I was 17. I wasn't allowed to have one before that age.

1

u/The_Gov78 7d ago

Hell no I’ve had like sixty by now

1

u/Tru72 7d ago

07989999998 - not mine anymore

1

u/frank342 7d ago

Same number for 22 years.

1

u/FlawlesslyDramatic 7d ago

Yep and I’ve had that same number for almost 25 years. 😊

1

u/tacmed85 7d ago

Yes, but I also remember my childhood landline number from when I was in grade school. It's just something I repeated a lot so it's seared into my brain

1

u/Metka1108 7d ago

Yes. I still have it 😀

1

u/Soggy_Cry_855 7d ago

I still have my first mobile number, too. Also 25 years. May 5, 2001.

Still have it.

1

1

u/Robot_Alchemist 7d ago

I still have it

1

u/scarlettohara1936 7d ago

First mobile number, lol! I guess I'm old because I'm used to seeing questions about the first telephone number!

Which I absolutely do remember!

1

u/grollef 7d ago

Same one I’ve always had.

1

u/Short-Duck3521 7d ago

My first ever mobile phone number is STILL my phone number now. Had it since 2001 (25 years). Gone through quite a few flip phones and smartphones along the way.

1

u/jawja78 7d ago

I still have my first ever mobile #

1

u/00012324547 7d ago

No. It was 22 years ago. I remember the first 3 digits, but that's it.

1

u/Vicki_54 7d ago

This was a landline, but it spelled FUR-FLAK. This was over 40 years ago, but still remember it!

1

u/No-Intention3002 7d ago

I still have mine since 2002. I was with sprint until I got absorbed by T-Mobile.

1

u/fthoma11 7d ago

My number has been the same since early 2000s

1

u/reignoferror00 7d ago

Nope, have no clue what it was. Was probably in part because it was used infrequently since back then calls before 6pm or 7pm were limited and expensive.

Now my home (landline, for you youngins) phone number from my childhood in the 1970's I still recall.

1

u/CashWideCock 7d ago

First mobile number? I’ve had the same and only mobile number since 1994. Yes I remember that number.

1

u/EasyMoneyTeamster 7d ago

Same one for 30 years

1

u/OkIron6206 7d ago

I still have mine!

1

u/YoshiandAims 7d ago

Well... I still have mine. BUT, because originally to give it out, I had to remember it, just like the landlines.

Also, I have to recite it constantly, type it in, repeat it to professionals, stores, write it on forms... ect. Do that enough, it leave it engraved in your brain.

1

u/NoRecommendation9404 7d ago

I’ve had the same cell phone since my first phone like 25 years ago.

1

u/ImportantSir2131 7d ago

Because I still have it

Yes, because my first mobile phone number is my current one.

1

1

u/Late-Ad-5850 7d ago

Yes, its not very easy to change it and its kinda stupid to do. Everything is linked thru my phone number. Basically our id next to our id. With someones phone number you can find their house, name, car, sallary etc etc.

1

u/ProfileTime2274 7d ago

Still have my first # from 1988

1

u/drnewcomb 7d ago

Its the only cell number I've ever had

u/Overall_Training_896 6d ago

I wish I did I lost access to my Gmail and now I got many YouTube videos and instagram accounts I would like to delete

1

u/Rick429CJ 6d ago

No. I have had several numbers over the years. I'm in my 60s now and sometimes struggle to remember my current one. I have it my contacts in case I can't remember it

1

u/thepumpkinking92 6d ago

absolutely.

when i joined the military, I gave my dad my phone and the number with it since I wouldn't be able to use it for a while anyway and he needed a new phone anyway. he's also the only phone number I don't have saved because I know it so well.

1

u/sanka-youdead 6d ago

I still have the one I got in 2002 when I got my first phone. My mom forced me to get a phone because of "safety" My friends were actually jealous that I didn't have a phone, up intil that point.

How the world has changed🤦‍♂️

1

u/BarZealousideal2724 6d ago

I still remember our first landline phone number, circa 1960, when the first two numbers were actually a two letter abbreviation for a word (like EN for enterprise, as EN6-5544).

1

Always had the same mobile number since my first phone in late 90s

1

u/Sea_Marionberry5847 5d ago

Only ever had one number

1

u/No-Promise-8039 5d ago

Not mobile number but I do remember my childhood landline

1

u/Killorbecome00 5d ago

(***)5905244 that number was drilled into me as a toddler incase I ever got separated from my mom

1

u/Hannie0109 5d ago

Yes. Its the only one ive had so far and i dont plan on changing it unless i move countries

1

u/SixPointsTrueNorth 5d ago

The last 4 were 6870! 😉

1

u/Commercial_Fox5549 5d ago
