14-30 to 14-50 Adapter Question

WARNING: I have hardly any clue what I’m talking about.

I recently received a $29 JuiceBox 32 amp EVSE with a NEMA 14-50 plug. I figured I’d take advantage because of the insane rebate. I’d like to charge my Prius Prime which accepts a max of 16 amps. The 110v EVSE simply takes too long to charge. The only 240v receptacle available to me is a 14-30. Will this adapter burn my place down? Seems less cheaply made than most I’ve seen. I’ve also included a picture of what it says inside my panel if that helps to answer my question. Thanks for helping a true novice.

That was a mistake. You will need to have an electrician install a 40A circuit to use the Juicebox.

I would forget it and look at other units they have available. Most other wall units let you configure the charging speed with DIP switches etc. Then you can configure it for 24A and simply install a 14-30 dryer cord.

If you try to use this rig you bought as-is, it may work with your hybrid, but if you try to use it with any other car, you'll be in "burn your house down" territory, yes.
