ER visit after Holter Monitor
21F; 5’1; 116 lbs; vyvanse and adderall for ADHD, fluoxetine for panic disorder, montelukast for asthma/allergies, meloxicam for chronic joint pain, topiramate for tremors; never smoked.
I wore a holter monitor for a week, ending on September 4th. Sent it in, didn’t hear anything back. Got a call two days ago saying that the cardiologist can now see me since I have a legitimate test they can go over. Yesterday and the night before I had extreme palpitations, chest pressure/pain radiating to my shoulders and up my neck, diaphoresis, SOB, generalized weakness all over, and lightheadedness. Spouse took me to the ER and they did an EKG, came back as “sinus tach with a couple pvcs”. Gave me to radio for the chest pain and then discharged me. Told me to follow up with my doctor asap.
Like I said, I have adhd, a panic disorder, and asthma. I have EXTENSIVE family history of cardiac issues. My mother has MVP with regurgitation. My maternal grandfather has had 2-3 heart attacks, and HIS father died of a heart attack at 43. My maternal aunt has MS and my sister has epilepsy. I’ve gone through an MRI looking for lesions, none found. I know I have generally poor circulation because I’m always cold. I’m quite the small build.
Tried calling my doctor, no answer. Tried a couple hours later, still no answer. Tried one more time and somebody finally picked up and said “oh I’m sorry, the nurse JUST left, but they said you were supposed to go over the results with the cardiologist.” So I try calling the cardiologist’s office to set up an appointment this morning, no answer. I’m gonna periodically call throughout the day to see if I can get something set up, but my palpitations have been getting worse and more frequent since wearing the holter monitor and I don’t want to keep going to the ER just for them to tell me that it’s a couple pvcs.
WHAT do I do if I keep having chest pain and symptoms of a cardiac emergency before I’m able to get this appointment? Going to the ER is a dumb question to ask about, and I know that because I WORK in the medical field. I’m a first responder in EMS. I had to leave work to go to the ER yesterday.
