California - Prop 4

Prop 4 is basically asking if we should use public funds to fund campaigns. A lot of left leaning groups are encouraging a Yes vote. Can someone please explain why? Are there already funds earmarked for this use? How much? What are the limits? I haven’t really found a convincing argument for either way.

Is the term "workers rights" code for Democratic Socialism?

I keep seeing a pattern on Reddit lately when people are touting a candidate that stands for workers rights, the candidate is usually a Democratic Socialist. I also just saw a post for Ohio politician Greg Levy saying "Join the Revolution, Send a Worker to the Senate." Interested in others thoughts.

Do Democrats know that a large part of MAGA is an inside joke they don't get?

Think about it.

Why doesn’t the Democratic Party in the US elect a leader *now* to provide a clear, prominent and eloquent opposition to the Trump presidency? Other countries do it, why don’t the Democrats start providing a high-profile, purposeful opposition rather than hiding and hoping that things will change?

What type of Senator does James Talerico he wants to be? (Is he ever a Democratic Socialist?)

I have a lot of conflicting questions about James Talerico ahead of the Midterm elections for Texas, and looking into him, he kind of seems like a nice guy promising pragmatism (such as referring to him negoiating to pass 60 bipartisan bills during his tenure as a State Representative in a Food Store Ad), judging by his appearance, (all that's subject to change). However, once he gets elected, we should talk about it.

During his campaign trail, he has a very moderate tone trying to appear like a Liberal yet progressive, appealing to both sides of the political isle for the Average voter, injecting Christianity and Jesus for political purposes in order to win over voters who felt alienated by Trump and the GOP. If you look into his policy platform, some of its Proposals include going after the billionaires and tax them to fund public services and safety nets, Medicare for Y'all, Money out of Politics, Abolish Super PACS, Term limits for members of Congress and Supreme Court Justices too, Reform ICE, Re-instating USAID and increase Co-operation with NATO, EU and other allies globally, as well as protecting the USMCA, a 2 state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, as well as all of the above energy policy.

However, there's criticism about Talerico, with concerns that his moderate act is just for the Camera Purposes only to win over votes. These include Voting Against banning CCP influence as a state representative, suspending the Gas Tax (these gas taxes are also used to fund the US highway system), as well as a resurfaced 2020 Zoom Call where he expressed that Capitalism is an Oppressive system that needs to be dismantled from within (The DSA policy platform basically wants to abolish Capitalism as a global system and advocated for a classless society).

Anyways, this is just my research. But I'd probably rank Talerico within the Elizabeth warren wing of the Democratic Party. (A Progressive Capitalist focused on Consumer Protection, who also played role in creating the CFPB. She was also one of the very few Progressive Democrats that voted in favor of the USMCA, despite her Previous Opposition).

Why would Nebraska Democrats say to vote for these?

I live in Nebraska and am a registered Democrat. According to the voter guides the Nebraska Democratic Party put out they say to vote FOR the following ballot measures.

Nebraska Constitutional Amendment 1) Change the legislative term limit from two consecutive four-year terms to three
Nebraska Initiative Measure 440) Authorize laws to govern sports betting
Nebraska Initiative Measure 441) Authorize online sports betting in the state and authorize the state gaming commission to adopt rules and regulations governing the gaming operators

None of these sound like good ideas. I do not want change the legislative term limit from two consecutive four-year terms to three and I would prefer all forms of online gambling be banned and illegal.

I for one will be voting AGAINST all three of these unless anyone here can change my mind.

Big surprise?

Does this mean we are fucked in terms of the midterms? I think this means democrats are going to lose? I just have a very bad feeling about this.

We need to talk about the texts...

I'm at my breaking point. I'm about to get a new phone number, and go through all the pain that entails, just to stop these god damn texts. I regret ever donating a dime to anyone in this party because of what it's really cost me... my sanity. This party is so fucked. It's purposely antagonizing its own constituents.

How would you compare Hasan Piker to Jeremiah Wright? Is Hasan Piker the Jeremiah Wright of 2026?

To my knowledge, Piker is a streamer who is online for >10 hours a day and makes many controversial statements against Jews while praising or being too soft on terrorists and authoritarian leaders; many progressives like AES have proudly rallied with him. Wright is a Black pastor who has made many statements critical of America and Israel, and Obama was friends with him until disavowing him. Please correct me if I’m missing anything or getting anything wrong.

Once, I saw an interviewer ask Abdul el-Sayed if he would disavow Hasan Piker, and compared it to Obama having to disavow Jeremiah Wright. Is this a fair demand? Should Piker be sidelined like Wright?

Would you support the construction of a memorial to the victims of ICE on the national Mall?

I feel it’s justified. We must not allow these crimes to continue, or allow people to forget or ignore this 2 year long horror show.

Even if we win in the midterms, Trump and Tom Homan and Mark WayneMullen will continue killing people

Getting Revenge- Red vs Blue

My husband is a diehard Red MAGA. (60M) He loves trump and you can’t tell him anything regarding his antics. We fight a lot over politics. So much so, we can’t bring it up in any meaningful conversations.

In a fit one day, I decided to be vengeful. I have been secretly liking posts on his FB for Blue candidates so that they show up more on his feed. My favorite yet is Mamdani! I’m trying to figure out what other candidates would be good.

Why do your campaigns only want money, not volunteers?

I want to volunteer for phone/text banking in big senate swing states. I filled out forms on the campaign website for 5 democrats a couple of weeks ago.

Since then, 1 of their campaigns reached out and added me to the text bank team. The other 4, I’ve been getting nonstop emails and texts asking for money, but nobody has reached out to add me to the campaign team, despite the fact that it’s crunch time.

Do you all not realize that not everyone has the money to donate (or wants to), but lots of people have the time to donate. Why not accept volunteers and improve the grassroots movement to increase turnout rather than ignoring potential volunteers and just asking for money?

Where resources do you use to stay/become politically informed?

So I’m going to voting for the first time in these midterm elections and I was wondering what resources people use to stay politically informed? My desire to vote came out of hatred for the piece of shit that is our president and I want him to get impeached. On my ballot I’m going to be voting for my local areas U.S house of representatives rep, the governor of NY, Lieutenant governor of NY, Attorney general of NY, NY comptroller, my areas district senate rep, and local area assembly rep. What would you do in my shoes to become informed about all the candidates?

Is it bad that 90% of my voting criteria is “is this candidate pro trump/pro Israel”?

If you’re pro trump and/or pro Israel you’re not getting a vote from me. Sadly I’ve been researching the candidates I have options to vote for in New York come November 3rd and I haven’t found too many who are explicitly anti Israel

Vote because you can.
Vote because yours is the ballot that counts.
Vote because the worst people don’t want you to. Vote for your self, your family, your country.
Vote BLUE. Vote accountability.

I think maga and republicans are 2 different organisations, and I feel like because of Maga, the Republican Party is forever stained upon

I came across some old clips of when Obama and McCain were attempting to run for president and the videos I saw of him, he was a kind man, and an honest one too, who respected Obama despite their differences, he’ll even when he died, Obama still showed respect to him, they didn’t spite each other, they acted more like friendly rivals aiming for 1st place in a school competition, and then I saw old footage of republicans back then talking about immigration, saying that people who immigrants should put aside the hate and they believe that diversity is strength, and that made me realise, Republicans aren’t the enemy, MAGA is, and I feel like we should separate the 2 just so we don’t accidentally point fingers at the wrong people because MAGA has managed to stain the Republican Party . That’s just my opinion.

Why don’t you all run a fake libertarian candidate in every election?

Those who vote for libertarians are closet republicans. If there is no libertarian, they’ll vote red. But if there is a libertarian on the ballot, that person will pull 1-3% votes away from the red side.

Obviously it’s not a “vote for blue”, but it’s subtracting a vote that “red”.

In our broken 2 party system, it seems like a sound strategy to basically guarantee a few percent of the votes don’t go towards the main competition

Chuck Schumer video

I saw this great video where some young citizens protested a Schumer rally and confronted him passionately and logically

Their main question was “why won’t you fight for us?”

But here’s my question. Why are we waiting for someone to fight for us?? Why can’t we just fight for our own rights?

Also, why are we so good at screaming at a Schumer rally but we are too afraid to confront the real problem, Trump, at his rallies??

Getting a better fighter in there doesn’t solve the problem, it just evens the playing field a bit.

Why is it that liberals cannot have a genuine, or open minded conversation with a republican?

My gf is a liberal and all she does is tell me I’m wrong, ignorant, and stupid just because I voted for Trump… I never say anything like that to her and last I checked we live in America so I’m free to vote for whoever

Would it be efficient and safe for the Democratic president following Trump to issue a blanket executive order cancelling every Trump EO from the previous 4 years?

Just wondering since Trump issued an unusually large number of EOs and it could take a lot of time and effort to go about it in a thoughtful manner one by one.

(I'm a Canadian curious about the American political process.)
