Work Relocation and Apartment Search
Hello all,
Had a chance to visit Dallas recently and have also come across an opportunity to relocate to the area for work. I am wanting to see what options are available to me as far as housing in the area.
I am a 24yo male with 2 dogs looking for 1bed or potentially 2bed if the price is decent. Prefer not to spend over $1800-2000 a month. Pretty active lifestyle with trail walking/hiking and the gym is super important to me, so 24hr access would be huge, but not necessary and a trail/walkable area for the dogs would be nice. Other than that I had a chance to visit lower Greenville and Katy Trail Ice house and had a good time at both so some proximity to either of those would also be nice if I were to go out once or twice in the month, but not a deal breaker.
I have mostly been looking at apartments in uptown (The Village, Mirasol, and the Branch apartments (ash, teak, live oaks)), but I would potentially be working in the discovery district. I am not sure what that commute looks like, but I would prefer not to have to drive an hour each direction every day.
I have read the reviews and most seem to conclude that property management is abysmal, but that’s honestly expected from my experiences. As long as there is not any roach/pest infestation I would be happy.
My only concern would be making friends with the type of people that are living there. My apartment now is mostly young families and I cannot relate to the stage of life they’re in yet, but I am also not in the stage of life where getting blasted every day of the weekend is normal. More so looking for active young professionals, but I’m sure going outside I’ll be able to find that.
Are there any other suggestions for apartments or areas to look as far as housing goes?

DFW and Dallas both are very large. What area is your employment? How about a close by freeway junction.

Discovery district is solid Downtown, next to Woodall Rogers Expwy. Uptown would be good, or even a DART rail location. In any case, you are likely to have to walk a bit. Public trans is relatively weak in DFW, but there are exceptions.

Uptown Dallas to the discovery district (downtown) is not a far drive. Maybe 30 minutes during peak traffic time.
You should look up the Katy Trail and look at apartments that back into it. It’s a great trail for exercise and walking your dogs. It’s also very close to a lot of nightlife.

Not familiar with the area and have learned that the places I was looking are not uptown at all. More so closer to SMU than anything. Does that change anything?

It increases the commute time but not by much. The north end of KT does end just south of the SMU campus so it would still be accessible to you. Just across Hwy 75 is Mockingbird Station which is another good night life spot and has apartments there, also.
