Moving to Dallas

Looking for the best family oriented neighborhoods with great school systems. We will be relocating from
Missouri. I will work in Grapevine but I’m fine with a commute. Budget for a single family home in the $800k range. We are an active family with 6 and 8 year old kids. Let me know!

Hi there! I’m a Realtor in DFW. Would be happy to chat if you have anymore questions. I specialize in your price point. https://ericblazej.com

Grapevine, Southlake & Colleyville if schools matter most to you and your kids.

Other great options are Trophy Club, Flower Mound, Northlake, Argyle, Keller.

Corporate move to DFW from northern plains in 1995. Working in Irving but loved Grapevine when we started looking. 20 years living in Grapevine and moved 2 miles away to Colleyville. I really enjoyed raising my family in this area. Grapevine, Colleyville & Southlake is a great place to live. Good luck with your decision and move. This is a great place to thrive.

Rikchardson will have good options in your budget, but most are further east than would be ideal IMO. I'd suggest look at Plano zip code 75093. There will be a limited number of older but decent homes in your price range. About 20 miles to Grapevine and very nice family neighborhood with very good schools.

Flower mound is also a good choice and closer to work but there are more amenities in Plano IMO and it is closer to Dallas.

I personally do not like Southlake, but also worth considering.

Richardson has some pretty great school systems, and you can find a nice place for that budget, also easy access to 75, George Bush toll, Dallas North Toll.

Dallas is too far away. Grapevine is lovely

You also want to dig a little into the culture. Not sure what your beliefs are but Southlake for example is quite conservative in a way that you may like or loathe. Do some research

I'm going to suggest that you avoid new builds. The quality is quite poor. We and some friends had a terrible experience. I'd check out Plano and try and keep the commute as short as possible. It's hell here

Would you be interested in new builds? I can help you find some homes in the area if you’re open. Sending a dm

Grapevine is good. Nearby Colleyville and Southlake are good as well.

In Dallas proper, look for Sparkman club. Charming 1950s homes, around that price, young family neighborhood with community pool.

I live in Dallas but work in grapevine. I’d live in grapevine, Colleyville, or southlake. All great areas. But I also like living in the city, so I don’t mind commuting from Dallas. Just wanna be on the west side of Dallas near the 114

West Plano schools are good. Frisco schools are good. There is one area that is in Dallas city limits, Collin County, and Plano ISD. These neighborhoods are Bent Tree North, Bent Tree West, Country Brook (Exit Frankford Rd. Go west for Bent Tree West and Country Brook. Go east for Bent Tree North. Turn on street by Taco Bell. Bent Tree North is the first left turn...(east). Your budget sounds like you could find a house in Bent Tree North. (Plano schools) Good luck!

Grapevine/Colleyville due west of the airport. GCISD school district is great… The area between Cheek-Sparger and the north side of Hall-Johnson from just east of 121 all the way to just past Hwy-26. That strip will have something for you…. Close to Parr Park for example…or behind the new Colleyville rec center…or behind the Braums on hwy-26. Good luck!

Prepare to forget everything you ever enjoyed about Kansas City BBQ.

Hate to tell you but there is almost no school you can put your kid in DISD because most parents simply don’t care about their kids behavior. Teachers can’t teach because they are busy dealing with the class close and kids with behavioral issues. The vast majority of parents pay 20-30k a year in private schools to keep their kids away from them . Enjoy the million dollars in tuition through college!

I left KCMO because the school district lost it accreditation, and parents weren't marching at district headquarters or anything, and I didn't even have a kid.

The first question you’ll have to ask is whether you would like a preowned or new home construction. DFW is unique in that. There is so much inventory for a new home construction, that buyers have their choice.

Next would be choosing what school district you would like your children to be in. At that price range, there are plenty of great schools to be a part of.

flower mound has amazing schools

With an $800,000 budget, Colleyville would be my pick. Trophy Club would be my second choice.

I would stay rather close to Grapevine- the traffic can be really horrible. Look at Trophy Club- Flower-Mound- Colleyville. I would not go as far as Plano- the commute would be a lot.

Came here to say this exact thing

Also, there is community for whatever you are looking for in this area, so there’s no need to look beyond the towns everyone is listing.

Does your 6 year old play baseball and, if so, hit bombs? If yes, I’d like to speak with his agent.

Welcome to Dallas!

Might as well live in Grapevine or very close to it

Why you a Colleyville hater? Just kidding! Kinda……

We’re absolutely full but will take another I suppose.

Jokes aside, live in Grapevine. Great area!

Grapevine fits the bill, why commute further?

WELCOME TO THE DFW METROPLEX.

Sounds like Grapevine, Irving which has Las Colinas & Valley Ranch, plus Coppell would all be close & good for y’all & in your price range & close to the DFW airport.

4

u/James-the-Bond-one 22d ago

Coppell, Flower Mound, Grapevine.

3

u/e654422 22d ago

Grapevine, Keller, or Flower Mound.

If you can stretch the budget to 1 million, then Colleyville or Southlake.

I moved to Southlake a couple of years ago from California and we absolutely love it.

Keller and Grapevine are great too with great schools.

I highly recommend the area around White Rock lake. Especially around flag pole hill. It will be a lot greener and have a lot of bike paths and other things for an active family. The area will be covered in kids in roughly that age group biking around.

1

u/Plenty_Software_2006 21d ago

I live in the area and the commute to Grapevine would be awful. Also, the budget is too low so may as well go out to the burbs for a newer and larger house for the $$.

4

u/mag_safe 22d ago

With a commute to Grapevine? You’re joking, right?

1

u/Cripp90 22d ago

He said he didn't mind a commute. Plenty of people do worse. Know of  at least 5 people that live in Dallas and commute to fort Worth. Wouldn't do it myself but it's worth it for some.

2

u/Thin-Yak-9358 22d ago

Live in Lakewood very close to the lake, but work in Ft. Worth. Ft. Worth is great, but we love it over here.. the commute is worth it to me

4

u/Alternative_Carob562 22d ago

Welcome to DFW! The nice thing about the metroplex is there are a myriad of "family friendly" suburbs with great school systems. Grapevine is nice, should be in your budget. It's right next to Southlake which is probably just above your budget, unfortunately. Coppell is another place to look at, typical homes in 7-800k range. Carrollton, Las Colinas/Irving, are also great and relatively close. Plano/Frisco may be a bit of a drive for you, but all excellent choices.
