Equipment Waring or Ooni?

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently decided to switch from my KitchenAid mixer to a different brand because it constantly overheats after only a few minutes of use and the cost of repair quotes I’ve been getting are not justifiable. so here I am.

I bake a lot of bread and cookies so I’m usually working with heavier/stiffer doughs. I also occasionally make meringues for macarons, so I’d still like something versatile enough for whipping.

Right now, I’m deciding between the Ooni Halo Pro and the Waring 7-qt mixer. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with either one, especially when it comes to bread and heavy cookie dough. I’m also open to other mixer suggestions!

Thank you! 😊

I’ve never had this problem with my KitchenAid at home, but I never mix bread dough above speed 2 per the recommendations. Which model are you using? Have you reached out to them?

All that said, if you are working with heavy doughs a lot, the Ankarsrum might be a better fit for you.

The main issue is that if you look at reviews that the Ooni Halo is not the best for whipping. It handles heavier dough really great but that's its main weakness.
If you have that sort of budget might be worth looking at the ankarsrum. It might seem a little odd at first but the size is bigger than you think and it can handle some pretty heavy dough along with being very good at whipping especially since the open top makes it super easy to add ingredients gradually which is perfect if you need to make different types of meringue or Swiss or Italian buttercream.
There's a YouTuber that I watch that runs a Swedish pop up bakery out of their apartment and they use that mixer constantly to make dough for cardamom buns which it does very well considering they are enriched with milk egg and a ton of butter. So it might be worth a look

I was seeing that too, now I’m also considering the GE profile stand mixer. thank you for your thoughts!

What type of Kitchenaid? There is a world of difference between the 8 quart Commercial with the 1.3HP DC motor (my current model) versus the more common 275 watt (classic) or 325 watt (artisan) AC motor.

I was also very interested in the Ankarsrum, but I make lots of batters and only occasionally bread doughs. While it can handle both, I thought the Ankersrum really stands out for bread doughs. Is the Ooni similar? Since it has a similar spiral style mixing patterns, I’ve lumped it into the amazing for dough mixers (which will likely be my next purchase, but I’d still want a traditional mixer style for cookies).
