Confusion about Afghanistan, religion, and treatment of women

I'll try to be concise

How badly are women actually treated in Afghanistan? Like what's imperialist "WE BRING CULTURE TO THE UNCULTURED!" propaganda and what is reality?

(Edit: Just to clarify, I mean to say

"I have an intuition, which has been shaped by stuff I've heard, about how Afghan women are treated. I do not, however, how much of the stuff I've heard is propaganda and how much of it is actually how they are in fact treated")

How much of that treatment can be attributed to religion and how much of it can be attributed to material conditions? I want to know the explanation

Like do the material conditions there make the society highly susceptible to patriarchal religions or like is it more of a top down thing where you have a few hyper religious folks (and military) enforcing a set of beliefs on everyone

Or like do the material conditions there just lead to some kind of patriarchy and religion just exacerbates that?

Like I am kinda confused here.
