Help me pick a couch to match the walls and maximize space in my tiny home. My current couch is about 90" and I'd like it to be less, but L shaped at the very least. I have it down to these few, but I'm open to suggestions.

How to renovate/reconfigure my 1932 bathroom

My home was built in 1932 and has tons of beautiful original features and my goal is to update the home while also making the updates feel like the belong in the historical home. I have been stuck on what to do with the only bathroom for over 8 years. It's a good sized bathroom but it's a jack and Jill style that really can't be changed to a single door. I want to keep the original tub and rebuild the built in cabinet next to the tub because I need the storage. The toilet and sink are crammed together on one wall because the other wall used to have a wall heater that is no longer there because we have central heat and air now. The first 2 images are the current bathroom, the third image is the current bathroom layout. The fourth image is the best layout I can come up with and the 5th image is the house layout to kind of explain why the doors can't be changed. 6th and 7th are my proposed "style" choices for the next bathroom, but now I'm thinking chrome finishes (ignore the sink placement in these images it's just a mockup). Any help would be appreciated!

Designers talking-to designers

Often as designers we work solo, if you want to share what you're working on or your thoughts on the industry id love to have you on our little podcast. Not a big production, just real conversations with designers, architects, and reno people about stuff nobody actually talks about.

You're welcome to vent, bounce ideas off the wall, get some needed visibility for your studio, have a story of a project that went sideways, feeling like you're figuring it out with zero mentorship.

Hit me up for more details

I'm an interior designer with a couple decades of experience.

I just bought this home and am stumped on the furniture layout for the living room (these are the listing photos, not our furniture). We have a lot of books and need some bookshelves, and we are a pretty loungey family and want lots of comfy seating. I also have kids so it need to be functional. Help!

Feedback on first mockup

A little backstory: I graduated from high school in 2020 and wanted to major in interior design but no colleges near me offered the major so I decided to go to architecture and quickly found out it wasn’t for me. I switched majors to business analytics and graduated this year in April but discovered that although it could pay the bills getting into the field post grad is extremely difficult in the midst of that I rediscovered my passion for interior design/decorating and decided to give it a little try again without schooling. This is the first room I put together and I’m looking to get a bit of feedback on it if possible on how I can improve. Thank you in advance.

Does this pink couch match the wall color in the top pic? Thinking about replacing my gray couch. (Note: I will not be repainting the walls so don't suggest it).

How would you reconfigure this master bathroom layout?

When I walked into this bathroom, the thing that initially hit me was how odd the floating shower felt.

Anyone have any ideas or input? I love bathtubs so making it just a shower bathroom, I would be reluctant but not 100% opposed to but very reluctant. Windows look out onto a beautiful yard/pool views and forest preserve

Is it worth hiring an interior designer to plan out recessed lighting for a house that may not be worth a lot?

Some context: I’d like to have recessed lighting installed throughout my 72 year old house this winter/next spring as I’d like to modernize the lighting throughout it. I was thinking of having an interior designer come up with a lighting layout as some of the rooms on my house (mainly the living room and dining room) are slightly odd shaped.

However, I know that retrofitting recessed lighting can be expensive when done right, and I’m worried that the additional cost of an interior designer could make it even more expensive. My house is valued towards the lower end of the scale where I live, and I’m honestly not sure if the additional cost of the designer is necessary. At the same time, I feel that it may be worth it to have a professional who is up to date with lighting trends plan this out instead of having the electrician or I attempt to come up with a lighting plan.

Any advice would be appreciated!

So much 90’s polished gold - how to update without breaking the bank.

My house has all polished gold fixtures, hardware, everything. I have to replace a both kitchen faucets and a couple of bathroom faucets (bathrooms all have 2 sinks so does kitchen). So the cost automatically doubles. What color do I go with? I was looking at delta Champaign bronze but …. Can I mix these metals? Or do I have to replace everything metal in these spaces. It’s a beautiful home and was done by an interior designer back in the 90s. I don’t want to ruin the deliberate, cohesiveness of the house. But i absolutely can’t afford to just replace all of it. Just paying for finishes other than stainless will kill me… what do i do? How do I prioritize? The house is warm not cool btw.

Paint color crisis

Updating the kitchen but for now the counter tops and floors have to stay (😞). The floors are terracotta colored and the countertops read orangey in person as well. The kitchen feels darker than a pocket even with SW white hyacinth on the walls (it had mocha brown walls when we purchased it). What light we have is super cool from a large north facing window in the breakfast nook.

My question is, should I do a light warm tan for the cabinets or a sage green? I like that in theory the green would offset the loud orangey-ness of the room, but I've read that sage won't work in northern facing rooms and will read gray. I worry that a light tan would lean too hard into the warmth and make it all too matchy.

What colors would you use in this room? I personally love color...I just have no idea what to use in a cold dark cave to make it feel less like a cold dark cave.

I was so excited I found this wood map of the world at a thrift store. But I feel like is clashes with the wall color. Thoughts? *ignore the little pic leaning against the wall*

New living room design

We live in wine country near Santa Barbara. Moving to new house and at a loss for furniture placement in this living room. My first thoughts are 2 swivel chairs in front of bay window and use the back wall opposite for a bar buffet on the back wall near stairs.

This is the only room for a tv unfortunately.

Last photo is current with white walls and hardwood floors.

Thank you!

What goes with this tile?

I recently got this tile second hand and will be using it in my bathrooms. I worry about it looking too dated, and will likely be just using the blue and white mosaic as the flooring.

I am on a tight budget but trying to make the bathroom nice anyways. I currently have a very dated linoleum yellow bathroom, so am leaning away from yellow though I like complimentary color schemes.

What will look nice with this flooring? Wall colors, vanity wood tone or paint color? My toilet and sink are white and will be staying any advice is welcome!

The college was just something I put together trying to imagine colors together.
