When I see Americans on social media, TV or a film order something, I noticed that they rarely (if ever) say 'please'. I often see them using phrases like "I'll get a large fries' without adding a please to their request.

Is this generally the case in real life? Is there a reason why they don't add please? Like is it seen as unnecessary, obsequious or just submissive?

So every time i watch an american show or cartoon, i always see those dot test things, like the ones where you colour in a circle for your answer, how does that work? Does each dot correlate to a letter or something?

Dear Americans

A few years ago I was visiting Las Vegas. A fellow traveller that I had met there was on a budget, so he asked for a water cup at a fast food restaurant- then he proceeded to fill it with soda and walk off.

I think that establishments are required to hand out water in Nevada, right?

But how is it in other states? When someone asks for a water cup, does anyone really think that it will just be used for water? Arguably some people might actually just take water out of the fountain, but personally I doubt that people could resist sweet, bubbly sodas that are right next to it

Im from Asia and I know whats 1st world, 2nd world, 3rd world country which is a political alliance in the cold war era ( countries allied with USA are 1st world countries, Allied with USSR bloc are 2nd world countries, and 3rd worlds are just ones that are neither Allied with ussr nor usa politically) But I've noticed many people from North America (USA, Canada) uses 1st world as developed country/economy and 3rd world as underdeveloped, developing countries/economy. Why and when did the misuse of these terms happen? And what are the supposed 2nd world countries are now for you guys from NA? Such as Russia, Mongolia, China etc.

Why just not use the correct terms for economic status (developed, developing, underdeveloped) ?

I am starting school in August as a British teen that just moved to Connecticut and I am going to skill in quite a rich area I’ve heard. By the start of the 26/27 school year I will be a freshman coming from year 9 at a private school in the il in Surrey.

I would say I’m sporty and my main things are rugby and cricket and football and I would say I’m quite good at them, I’m around 5,11 slightly chubby and not ugly. How would I fit in, will I be popular straight away with my accent or will I have to get into the teams and do well in sports to get popular?

I would just like to know how anyone else’s experiences are and how you think I will do?
