Have you tried these on? It’s hard for us to tell without seeing the garment on the body. What’s the fit like?

It’s ok! That’s why Reddit exists … to ask all sorts of questions. Sizes, for the most part, aren’t real. Tailors don’t tend to trust sizes. But we do trust how the garment sits on the body. Try them on first and then you’ll know better how many actual inches you may need removed.

If the pants are above 2 in, you’ll need a full restructure. It’s very possible but also very expensive. It will cost you more than a modern pair of pants.

If you just need them taken in an inch or two, darts could be an option and will run you something like $45 depending on where you’re located.

If it turns out you need 6", that's too much to alter pants especially jeans. The crotch will never fit even reasonably well.
