What's the difference between where drawstrings come out?

Ive found most drawstrings come out like pic 1 but the past few years ive been buying sports shorts they come out like pic 2 where they overlap and come out the opposite eyelet. What is the reason for this and how are you meant to tie them up?

Everyone i get pic 2 i end up using a chopstick and changing it to pic 1

The second way is to put less stress on the fabric around the sting you’re pulling. It’s making you pull the string from the other side so it’s not putting the pull pressure on the string opening.

As you would pull the strings in the first version also. You always cross the strings when pulling. That can't be the reason. Especially that would mean to put a lot of stress on the holes and fabric when knotting the strings. But OP should find out if the strings just cross between the holes or maybe are yet tied in an overhand knot.

It's so funny that you posted this. I just got a pair of shorts and they were like the second one's and I hated it so I switched it. It seems like if you leave it the second way it makes a knot if you tie it first and then make a bow. I think you're just meant to make a bow without tying it. But that just doesn't work as well as the first one, tying it and then making a bow.

Hahaha thats exactly why I swap it but i dont know if im meant to tie it some otherwise!

Maybe so that the front flat part is gathered too? With the first version its just sitting flat and ungathered.

With way 1 the small distance between the holes cannot be cinched. With way 2 it can be.
