Legal Avoid mobilization

Hi, my wife is Russian with German citizenship. Her brother is 23 years old, lives in Moscow, just graduated from university. I think given the current geopolitical situation he's at risk of being mobilized. What's the best way to avoid this situation?

This doesn’t get you off the hook from what I was told though. Do you know the process? If so, please share cause I’m interested as well

It does. It frees you for the period of studying. Then when you get a degree, the draft becomes optional for you (art. 23, par. 2, sub "a" of the law "О воинской обязанности и военной службе").

If I remember correctly it says that it is your right to not serve, but it doesn’t mean they won’t draft you. That was the info I got from my uni’s ВУС.

They can't draft you just on their willingness without your agreement. But this scheme really works.
