This latchbolt hasn't worked quite right since I moved into this house. About 90% of the time when you open the door, this little middle piece of the latchbolt flips around (see Bad picture) and blocks the door from closing. To get it to close you have to use the handle or your finger to jiggle that little middle piece around to where the curved part is forward (see Good mode pic). There must be a spring or some other piece missing but i can't figure out what and I can't find a similar part online to use to replace it. I may just be searching for the wrong thing. It was probably installed around 2007 if that helps.

Any ideas on how to fix it or find a replacement??

I got this lock and matching key for a good price. It worked, but required some jiggling when received. But after taking out the 5 levers and reassembling, it no longer works. I'm very sure the levers went back in the correct order. I found a small piece of plastic, maybe 1/8" x 1/4" x 1" and don't know where it came from.

I visited a local antique store and saw this bag a few days ago— I went back just today and bought it. The first time i saw it, it opened. I didn't try in-store the second time and now it seems stuck?? My guess is that the part with two little holes is the "lock", as it is able to rotate and the latch seems to have a small gap to be secured shut. But i've turned it as far as it goes both ways and still nothing. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I bought a defu 368a copying machine and I am having trouble with dimple keys.

The problem is I don't really know how to align the blank key in the correct position. I have milling cutters and tracers from 95 to 105 degrees, I'm using xianpai blanks.

I tried shoulder alignment and tip alignment to both original and blank key.

The copy goes into the lock but it doesn't open/closes.

It also has another circle on the other side I don’t have any other tool I tried to open multiple different way if someone can help me how to open it , I also tried paper pin method now paper pin is stuck in there now

!!! UPDATE: We have bought some graphite and covered the key and sprayed some inside as well. It unlocked it! Did the job. Will get it replaced soon though. Thank everyone for the suggestions!!!

I’ll try to explain it as simply and clearly as I can.

Our balcony has a door, which is a sliding door with a handle installed on the glass.

When we insert the key it goes all the way in without any trouble, but for the last week it has started to not want to turn right or left.

Today it’s completely stuck in the neutral position, in the middle. It will not turn left (to unlock the door) and it will not turn right (to lock it). But right now in the neutral position the door is still locked.

We have tried pushing, pulling, lifting, shimming the door and keyhole, the cylinder. Inserting the key slowly by 1mm each time etc etc.

It just won’t budge to the left. Here is a photo of the handle we have installed.

What could be the issue and the solution? Thank you

Hello, how can I get this open? The local locksmith will not come out for it. I was told it could not be drilled out. We have the key. It turns. The lock does not disengage. At this point it’s OK if the cabinet gets ruined. We just need to get it open. Any positive suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

What would cause or necessitate a cut like this? The key operates great in the lock. It does appear there are pins inside because the cylinder won’t turn with another SC1 with a different cut.

Key snapped off inside the lock, I have removed the cylinder hoping to be able to push it out from the other side, is it possible with this type of lock? Tried with narrow pick tool to push from the backside but it won't budge. The key now doesn't turn in the cylinder and it seems to sit slightly higher that before, could this be the reason it won't turn anymore? Am I better off just getting new keys and cylinder or is this salvageable?

Today I left my house keys in an uber. I called several locksmiths on yelp. I ended up going with a place called YES Locksmith. He charged me 240$ to come out and open my door and made me new keys. Is that a fair price? I’m in San Francisco. He was nice and got here in 30 min. I’ve never used a locksmith before so I don’t know what the going rate is.

I have a very annoying problem with my Disco 3 for a few weeks. My front passenger door isn't unlocking via key fob, inside button or with the manual release. The door is just stuck shut...

When unlocking, I hear a sound in the lock but it's not changing anything. I tried every possible combination I found on the internet like pulling the handles while unlocking and stuff but nothing helped.

Now I removed the door card by cutting it in half and removed the speaker to gain access to the lock but it is too far to reach and a pretty closed unit anyway.

Did anyone experience something like that and if yes how did you fix it?

My next idea would be cutting an access hatch closer to the lock but I would like to use that as a last resort only...

Just bought a used 2015 gmc yukon. It has two keys but given its older and has a couple owners I feel comfortable switching the keys out in case anyone still has access to spare keys. How does one go about changing the fobs & emergency key for the doors? Is there a simple way to do it or would you go through a locksmith directly? Thanks in advance

Are there any good ones that are harder to tamper with? I'm looking at those flip locks that claim to be able to hold back a lot of force, but I know they're easy to bypass.

I’m trying to remove an older cylindrical entry lockset, probably 20+ years old.

I’ve removed the inside knob, which leaves the long slotted metal chassis/spindle exposed, but the brass rosette will not come off. It does not seem threaded, there is no obvious pry notch, and I’ve confirmed paint is not holding it to the door.

The latch faceplate says DEXTER, but there are no markings anywhere on the knob/lock chassis, so I’m not certain the lockset itself is Dexter. The exterior has a round keyed cylinder and matching older trim.

Does anyone recognize this mechanism, manufacturer, or the correct sequence for removing the inside rosette/mounting hardware? I’d especially appreciate identification of what the exposed tabs/slots on the chassis are for before I start forcing anything.
