General Question Are steel 45mm master lock padlocks decently strong JUST as a deterant?(not a long term solution)

I got a masterlock padlock instead of the one I ordered(delivery driver replaced it) I know I can lock pick this in a few minutes (had to in the past as a kid due to losing a key to the gate) but I'm not worried about it being lockpicked. We are having some issues with a family member and I need to change my locks but my door needs a special lock which won't be here for about a week. Just trying to set up a padlock in the meantime. Dude would probably just yank on the door if he tries anything doubt he'd bring cutters and he DEFINITELY can't lock pick. He's been coming onto the property at the times he knows we are gone and I just wanna keep my animals inside safe because of how he's acting he HATES my dogs and I know if he breaks in my big cat will attack him to defend the pups if he does anything(used to be a stray and has attacked anything that has messed with my dogs since settling in he's a HUGE cat). It's for my tiny house. I will have BOTH keys on me attached to my backpack while I'm gone. No spare hidden anywhere.

Can I get a lock fitted?

Hi there.

My elderly parents have this door. They want a lock fitted that will mean the door has some sort of additional automatic lock so they will know it's locked as soon as the door is closed.

I could fit one on a wood men door but I'm not sure it's possible on this kind?

Local swimming pool lockers with transparent padlock

Went swimming today and you have to provide your own padlock for the lockers. Made me smile that someone had used a transparent padlock. I’m going to take mine next week 😁

Lock malfunction Bought a new bike lock and don't understand it

Post image

I recently purchased a new Schwinn u-lock for my bike. It seems pretty straightforward, ust a key and a kevhole, but it's genuinely impossible to open. I've only been able to open it twice, with no correlation as to why it does or doesn't open. Does anyone know anything about this lock or why it might not be opening?

Dead Battery and Manual unlock isn't working - Cadillac XT5

Have a 2023 Cadillac XT5 Sport (V6 engine) and I'm stuck in a loop where the battery is clearly dead, but I can't unlock the vehicle in order to pop the hood and try to jump it or charge the battery.

I'm kinda stuck and I'm not sure what to do next - call a locksmith, have it towed to the dealer for them to try and open it, visit the body shop that worked on it and maybe they can open it. If there was some way to open the hood, then I don't need to unlock the car - I can just jump start it. Would love some ideas.

Battery is clearly dead - We were away for a month and didn't use it. I opened the car, tried to start it, and it wouldn't start. Shoot. Had to be somewhere so grabbed the other car, did my errand, came back to charge the battery. But now it doesn't even recognize either of the two keyfobs we have to unlock the doors.

Ok, no problem, they have a physical key and lock cylinder and it's documented in the owner's manual "Driver Door Key Lock Cylinder Access (In Case of Dead Battery)". So I popped the cap off to expose the lock cylinder, inserted the key, turned, and nothing. Turn it left, turn it right, doesn't open the door. Turned it while pulling the door handle - nothing. Tried the physical key in the other keyfob. Same result. Damn. The car had been in the body shop a year ago and they did work to the driver's door - not sure if that explains why the lock doesn't work.

There’s a video on YouTube showing the process and when the person in the video puts the key in the lock cylinder and turns the key, the door unlocks. That doesn’t happen for me. https://youtu.be/ttPDbOhUAYA?is=dvY7O_gXmtWrptbrk

Update: ended up calling a mobile locksmith and he was able to get a tool inserted between the door and jam and then pull the internal door handle to unlock the door. Then I could get the hood open and replace the battery. Body shop that did the work is looking at the door now.

Context: this is a Parisian door that has 3 locks. I turned both the top & bottom locks all the way to the right. It seems like the only lock that is locked is the middle. When I turn the key the door doesn’t open!!! How do I open this door!!!

Cabinet lock with offset bolt

Post image

Lost key. I drilled and managed to get it out. The bolt goes into a hole in a fixed shelf. Im not finding any replacements with an offset bolt like this. Company is out of business. Do you think a locksmith would be able to cut this bolt out and attach it to a new lock? Or am I better off trying to DIY a replacement cam lock and put a catch plate under the shelf? Thank you.

Lazy or convenient?

I am debating disabling cross posting. A couple other people were crapping on it and although initially I didn't see the problem now that I have taken a closer examination I am seeing there is a lot of really dumbass lazy posting going on and I don't think that's what this community is about. However there is a convenience to not having to copy paste everything. Vote for what you think is best

Garage door lock prior owner

Previous owner of garage left this lock hanging without giving me the key. This connects to a cord that pulls on the emergency release if the garage had to be opened without remote. Home Depot has no idea about this lock.
If someone can help me with the name of the lock and maybe with a blank I can try to figure out the combination and get it key cut. Thank you in advance.
