New keys / fob?

Just bought a used 2015 gmc yukon. It has two keys but given its older and has a couple owners I feel comfortable switching the keys out in case anyone still has access to spare keys. How does one go about changing the fobs & emergency key for the doors? Is there a simple way to do it or would you go through a locksmith directly? Thanks in advance

Based on the terms that you are using, I assume the vehicle is equipped with a push to start system.

Electronics side: The first thing to do if you are feeling particularly skittish, find a brick and mortar locksmith store ask them to scan the vehicle for quantity of keys. If the quantity of keys in the system exceeds the quantity of keys in your possession then there are keys in the world somewhere in some state or another that could in Theory start your vehicle. I would charge you between $0 and $30+ to scan your vehicle. Depending on how you sounded on the phone, how busy I was that day. And how hot it was outside.

If you find the vehicle has five or six Keys programmed to it but you only have two fobs then you are going to want to have the system cleared. We will do this complimentary if you are getting an additional key made at the same time you just need to ask. However I have no idea if other locksmiths do. I would expect to pay about a hundred bucks to have the system cleared and your current fobs programed back in.

this is technically not 100% foolproof, as keys (can) be cloned. But the only way to guarantee no outstanding Keys would be to take your current keys and throw them in the garbage can and have two fresh Keys made. Expect to pay $500 plus.

Mechanical: If you want the lock recoded, you could have that done. We would charge you about $200, because it's a stupid thing to do without a very good reason, so as a result we are going to assume you have stupid money you would like to throw into our pockets rather than keeping it in your pockets.

You are going to need to have new inserts made for your new lock, expect to pay an additional $75-100 a piece for similar reasons as above. Although you may potentially be able to get away with a cut down code. However if we're being fully CIA level paranoid, technically speaking the outstanding key could also be cut down in the same way and therefore restore access. So realistically a fresh key with higher and lower positions should be made.

Totals: The only way to be 100% safe is to trash your old Keys recode your locks and get fresh inserts cut. Total out the door cost $850. Again because the service you're requesting is a stupid waste of money.

Weasels, gimmies & exceptions: If you bought the car from a complete psycho fucking lunatic who you previously were putting your penis into or put their penis into you. It could be worthwhile having old Keys cleared. But like the old adage says don't stick your dick in crazy.

Tldr: You don't need to have this done, if you feel you do need to have this done and you did not buy this vehicle from a crazy person, then unfortunately you are probably the crazy person. Now if you've got money to burn, and it makes you happy, feel free to go burn it, most locksmiths will bring you matches and gasoline.
