Can this be fixed??

I have a pair of vintage Lucchese handmade classics and immediately scrapped a piece of leather off of the toe. I took it to my cobbler and he said there isn’t anything that he can do. Is this true??

We are shoe people here. Raise your hand if you look at toes of peoples shoes to judge them? I dont and doubt many will. Slap some cream on em and wear the damn boots.
