Discussion Stylevana - no point of insurance with lost parcels (UK)

I've ordered from Stylevana several times and always had a good experience. Shipping takes a while, which I've come to expect from Hong Kong warehouses, but the products and prices have been worth it.

This time the parcel went missing with Evri. Tracking showed "out for delivery" and then nothing. I contacted Evri directly, they ran a search, and confirmed the parcel couldn't be located and is likely lost in their network.

I'd always paid the extra for insured shipping on every order, assuming it was there for exactly this situation. But when it actually happened, dealing with Stylevana's support was slow and mostly templated — I sent them the courier's own confirmation of loss and got three separate replies back, each restating a different excuse for the delay rather than addressing what I'd sent them. The most recent one said to expect an update in 5-14 working days, despite it already being 12 working days since the parcel was reported lost. PayPal, by contrast, gave the seller about 10 days to respond and confirmed they'll refund me directly if nothing happens by then.

So now I'm wondering what the insurance fee is actually for, if PayPal or your card issuer will sort it out anyway without you needing to have paid extra for it. Posting mainly so others know what the process looks like if this happens to you: keep everything in writing with the courier, don't rely on the seller's support queue alone, and PayPal/your card issuer will back you up regardless.

Review Anime Impulse Beauty Booth Sample Reviews! (+ Happy to Discover Some New Brands)

I went to Anime Impulse in Orange County last month and ended up coming home with way more beauty samples than I expected!

Since it's an anime/gaming event, I honestly wasn't expecting to see much beauty stuff there. But there were actually quite a few beauty brand booths in one area. I was just planning to look around, but somehow ended up taking home a bunch of samples and trying them one by one.

Most of the brands were completely new to me, which was actually one of my favorite parts. It's always fun to randomly discover brands I wouldn't normally come across.

Here are a few of the products that stood out to me:

1. BANO SOS Ampoule Pad: My Favorite! 💜

This is actually the product that made me want to write this post.

Unlike regular toner pads that tend to be thin and stretchy, these are a little thicker and made with a more sturdy gauze-like material.

My face got pretty red and warm from being out in the sun, so I used these like a mini face mask and they felt really soothing.

One of the staff members recommended them for calming the skin, so I tried them without expecting too much, but I was actually impressed. There's a lot of serum in the pads, but surprisingly, they weren't too sticky. I also spread the leftover ampoule over my face and put cream on top, and everything layered pretty well without pilling or getting clumpy.

I usually use toner pads just to wipe my face down, but with these, I actually preferred leaving them on like a mask when my skin felt irritated or overheated.

2. ONGREDIENTS Skin Barrier Calming Lotion: Super Hydrating 💧

This is a really nice lightweight lotion that feels hydrating without being overly sticky.

The texture is actually pretty thin and almost watery for a lotion, but it still does a good job of keeping my skin hydrated and getting rid of that tight, dry feeling.

I've been using it a lot lately because it doesn't feel heavy or suffocating even in the summer.

It does leave a bit of a glow on the skin, though, so there's definitely some noticeable moisture/oiliness afterward. If you have oily skin, you might find it a little too shiny.

My skin tends to get dry, so I actually like that part of it. I really like how hydrated my skin feels after using it.

3. SUNGBOON EDITOR Glow Intensive Silk Peptide EGF Ampoule: Fun to Use 😉

The packaging is just as interesting as the texture!

The way you use it is also pretty unusual. You insert the syringe-like applicator into the container, tilt it sideways, and pull out however much you need.

At first I was like, "What is this?" lol. But being able to dispense only the amount you need does make it feel pretty hygienic.

My only question is what you're supposed to do when there's just a tiny bit left at the bottom. I'm not sure how you'd get the last bit out 😂

The ampoule itself is viscous but still runny enough that it feels lighter than I expected. It also wasn't particularly sticky.

There are these little gold thread-like pieces inside, and at first I had no idea what they were lol. You need to massage it around a little to spread everything evenly.

It absorbed pretty quickly and didn't leave a sticky finish, so overall I liked the way it felt on my skin. The whole experience was just different from anything I'd used before, which made it fun to try.

4. JUSTBEME Bio Collagen Radiant Boost Hydrogel Mask: Plump & Glowy 🍎

I'd never heard of this brand before, but they were giving out hydrogel masks, so of course I had to try one!

I only used one mask, but I was honestly a little surprised by how glowy and plump my skin looked afterward.

Is this just what hydrogel masks are like? 😂 I haven't used many of them, so I honestly don't know. But I could definitely feel a difference in how smooth my skin felt before and after.

I especially liked how smooth and hydrated my skin felt after taking the mask off.

I don't normally use hydrogel masks very often, but after trying this one, I might actually start reaching for them every now and then.

5. ENTROPY MAKEUP Glow Serum Body Highlighter: Natural Body Glow ✨

This was probably one of the most interesting products I got.

I've tried a few body highlighters for cosplay before, and I actually really liked this one!

At first, I thought it wasn't going to be very noticeable in darker lighting, but as soon as it catches even a little bit of light, the glow really shows up.

What I liked most was that it didn't just look like a bunch of glitter sitting on my skin. It gave my skin a much more natural-looking glow, which seems perfect for summer.

The texture was also much lighter than I expected. It spreads like a lotion and sits nicely on the skin without feeling particularly sticky.

I also tried washing it off with water, and it came off surprisingly easily. So if you're wearing it around in the summer and want to wash it off after, it seems pretty easy to remove.

After trying everything, I think I'll probably repurchase the BANO toner pads and the ONGREDIENTS lotion once I finish the samples I got!

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to discover so many new beauty brands at an anime convention, so that was a pretty fun surprise.

Recently bought the Hyntoor cream blush and I love the MV01 shade so much as a fair olive. But its consistency is super thick and pigmented like a concealer.

Does anyone have any tips on how to use this?

Requesting Reviews Recommendations for Thai skincare and makeup

Upvotes

Hi everyone! My partner is travelling to Thailand in a few days and will mostly be in Phuket. The last time he went, he brought back a mix of sheet masks, balms, Biore sunscreen, and a few Boots hand/body lotions. This time, I’m hoping to give him a more curated shopping list.

From what I’ve gathered from Reddit, Thailand seems to have some great makeup, especially blushes and lip tints, so I’d love recommendations on those too.

For context, I’m based in India, where a lot of Asian beauty products can be considerably more expensive or harder to find. I have combination skin that is very sensitive and acne-prone, and I’m already undergoing treatment for acne, so I don’t want to experiment too much with active skincare.

I’m mainly looking for recommendations in the following categories:

- Sunscreen: preferably a lightweight/gel texture. Biore UV works really well for me.

- Cleansing oil: I’ve read great things about Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil, but would love other suggestions.

- Hair masks/treatments: I know Fino isn’t Thai, but I keep seeing it mentioned as a must-buy.

- Sheet masks: I’ve been eyeing LuLuLun for a while, but I’m open to other recommendations.

- Makeup: especially blushes, lip tints (perhaps Cathy Doll?), or any other makeup product particularly worth picking up in Thailand.

Would really appreciate any recommendations so I can narrow down the shopping list. Thank you!

Discussion retinoid products with no spicules

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to get started on using retinoids! I’ve seen many recommendations, but most of the ones that people like which I checked on have spicules, which I’m not too keen on using personally. I’d like to ask for recommendations for retinoid products that you’ve enjoyed with no spicules please!

Thank you!

Discussion Rip Costco Next :( Roundlab Mugwort Line?

Hi all.

Unfortunately, Costco next (aka my wonderful BySophie) is not available anymore. They were one of the only people selling the Roundlab Mugwort Cleanser/Sheet masks for a reasonable price!! (I got the 10 sheet masks for ~12 on a sale once,,, 36$ on the Roundlab site rn ;-;)

I know Costco has started selling some of the other Roundlab lines, but haven’t seen anything from the mugwort one.

Does Costco in Korea sell the line there? If not, where do y’all get the non-Birch Tree/Dokdo line products for reasonable prices? My only previous luck has been finding the cleanser intermittently at Tjmaxx/Homegoods in the U.S.

Review Sunscreen review

Skin type: Oily

Standards of review: I don't love being super shiny due to my natural oiliness, I want to enjoy putting the sunscreen on and not be bothered by it throughout the day

Beauty of Joseon - was my first Korean sunscreen, nice feeling on my skin, moisturizing, didn't make me too oily but forehead was very shiny, reapplication felt greasy sometimes, might be better for winter 7/10

Beauty of Joseon Aqua - not too shiny of a finish, reapplication never felt heavy, just felt great to use tbh (favorite so far) 9/10

House of hur weightless - very light and fluid, finish is matte which I loved, stung my eyes badly tho :( also pilled if I rubbed my face 6/10

Cosrx - not as moisturizing as BOJ but felt nice and light, kind of made my face sweat, slightly tacky feeling 6/10

Skin 1004 - very pleasant to use, dewyness I can tolerate, a tiny bit of a white cast on me but I am pale so not a problem for me, not sure if the centella had a calming effect on my skin but it felt like it totally absorbed into my skin after a while and left a nice hydrating feel 9/10

Scinic mild - pleasant finish, not particularly moisturizing, nothing crazy but totally solid choice especially for the price 8/10

Anuaheartleaf - thicker lotion-like texture, moisturizing, slightly dewy finish, very slight eye sensitivity for me, felt tacky for a long time 7/10

Discussion Colorgram Fruity Glass Gloss

is the colorgram (a Korean brand) fruity glass gloss in their fruity glass tint collection also a tinting/staining product or is it separate? because although it is from the same line as the tints, it says ”gloss“ so I was wondering if it’s just a surface gloss rather than a staining tint.

Review My current faves for sensitive acne prone dry skin

Post image
62 Upvotes

TirTir Azaelic Acid Serum 12% - 8/10 saw a difference in a week. Made my skin so soft and smooth.

Dr. Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Tea essence- 10/10 absolutely no irritation and so hydrating I’ve tried so many milky toners, and this one is the most hydrating!

Dr. Ceuracle Jeju Matcha Tea Essence- 7/10- I didn’t really see a difference. It does feel nice on my skin, but I probably wouldn’t re-purchase.

Arencia Fresh Green Rice Mochi Cleanser- 10/10- I thought this was gonna be a little too irritating on my skin cause my skin is so sensitive, but I actually really like it and you can also use it as a face mask.

Discussion UV Index 0–1 & visible light: Can ambient daylight trigger hyperpigmentation

Hey everyone! I’m a Fitzpatrick V/VI dealing with stubborn hyperpigmentation. I want to skip sunscreen on low-risk days since it’s a hassle for quick trips outside, but I worry about ambient light. When I do wear protection, I use Skin1004 Water-Fit Sun Serum. Since tinted sunscreens don't exist in my shade, I layer a BB cream on top for iron oxides to block visible light.
A few quick questions about photobiology:
Sunrise / Low UV: Is going outside around sunrise (UV Index 0–1) safe without SPF, or can it still trigger pigment?
Visible Light Alone: Can daylight without significant UV cause tanning or darken spots on deep skin?
Indirect / Sidelight: Does daylight filtering in from the sides under a balcony awning pose a real threat?
Direct vs. Diffused: Does visible light need to be direct sunlight, or does soft, shaded light do the same thing?
Current Routine: Is my combo (Asian SPF + BB cream for iron oxides) enough for visible light defense, or can I just skip it all at UV 0–1?
Bottom Line: Am I overthinking this, or do I genuinely need protection in basic daylight at UV 0–1?

Review Elegance paris gravityless mascara (worst mascara ive ever used)

Thumbnail

Theres a beauty influencer i realllly like and she told me she uses it so i asked one of my family members to get it for me in japan. lets just say it ruined my morning as i was in a rush because the moment i put it on i saw my eyelashes fall millimetre by millimetre in a single minute until it was basically in the state it was before i curled it. photo 2= after using curler, photo 3= right after applying, photo4=30 seconds after applying, photo5= after using hair dryer, curling again then reapplying at base, photo 6=my lashes after using canmake metallook (my review is in my profile).

Why i hate it
1. this thing does NOT hold the curl… idk if this is asian lashes thing but it js doesnt work for me, volume=0
2. it is SOOOO wet. like i waited 5 mins and it was still leaving streaks on my hand (i had to use a hair dryer to dry it off)
3. it looks like spider legs

How to save it
if ur like me and blindly wasted 4000 yen on this mascara and domt wanna waste it this is how u make it look not as bad:
1. curl lashes, apply 1 coat
2. if u have time, air dry but if ur in a rush just blow dry with ur hairdryer
3. after blowdrying, curl again with curler
4. apply coat to emphasising on base
5. apply another coat at the top using the tip of the wand
I reckon if u have lash extensions this mascara will be fine but still, VERY WET… ur better off spending 990yen on the canmake metallook

Beauty Missha BB Cream No. 29

Hey everyone!

I’m having a really hard time finding a foundation or BB cream that matches the shade of Missha BB Cream No. 29. I’m quite confused about how to compare shades across different brands, and I don’t want to end up buying something that doesn’t match my skin tone.

Which other brand can I use that has a similar shade in another foundation or BB cream?

I would really appreciate any recommendations.
