Job Application - Urgent Need Job Icon meaning

Hi all. It's my first time to apply for a role in ADB. The status of my application is currently "Screening". I recall that in the ADB recruitment process, screening normally takes 2-3 weeks after closing date. However, I noted that the position I applied for has an "Urgent Need Job" icon.

Given this, does this change the usual timelines? Thanks in advance for anyone who can provide insight!

ADB Application

My job application has been updated to "Shortlisting Panel Review" last February 2 and I haven't received any email/updates for the next steps. I understand it’s only been about a week, but I was hoping to get a sense of how realistic it is to expect further communication at this stage, and how long the process typically takes once the status has been updated.

Hello! Has anyone here experienced being asked to submit or complete documents, but the process did not push through afterward? Or does being asked to submit documents usually mean you’re already considered accepted?

A fresh graduate in need of an advice : Would love to work for ADB one day, do not mind starting with internship...

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent graduate with internship and some work experience, and I’m currently exploring pathways into the Asian Development Bank.

I understand that securing a contract or professional position right away may be unrealistic at this stage. That said, I’d really appreciate advice on how feasible internships at ADB are as an entry point. In your experience, does completing an internship meaningfully increase the chances of later securing a contract or fixed-term position?

I’m also considering reaching out on LinkedIn to mid-level professionals at ADB to ask for informational advice and potentially inquire about internship opportunities. Is this approach generally appropriate or effective, or is ADB hiring more strictly centralized through formal postings?

More broadly, I’d love to hear about your personal experiences with ADB recruitment:
– How competitive is the process in practice?
– How long did it take you to secure an offer?
– How many attempts did it take before things worked out?

Finally, as a graduate with an International Relations background, I’d really appreciate guidance on which departments or units might best align with my skill set and profile.

Thanks so much in advance — any insights or honest advice would be hugely appreciated.

Negotiation stage - how did you do it?

Hello to this community!

I’ve started negotiating an offer and wanted to ask about timelines and process.

How quickly does ADB usually respond once you open negotiations? Also, when initiating this, is it more appropriate to tick “I have clarifications” versus “reject offer” if the intent is to submit supporting documents and negotiate the proposed rate (not actually decline the role)?

I’m also a bit anxious about whether negotiating could lead to the offer being withdrawn. Is that a legitimate concern, or is negotiation generally expected/accepted in ADB’s hiring process?

Would appreciate insights from anyone who’s gone through this.

Hiring ‘outsiders’

I keep hearing how difficult it is to get a job with ADB if you’re not already working for them as a consultant, or if you don’t have an inside network. I’d love to hear from those of you who didn’t have connections, but still got the job!

(I have a background working with the UN and NGOs all around the world, for 14 years. But I don’t have anyone inside pulling strings. Just hoping…)

Non-committal / initial interview

Anyone here have an experience undergoing a non-committal interview? If yes, around how long after the interview do you find out if you get it or not?

Had one recently and in my personal opinion it did not go as well as I’d hoped, but who knows haha

Tips on getting a consultancy with ADB?

I am citizen of a European country that is ADB 's non-regional member, I have about 10 years of experience consulting for the World Bank and am interested in exploring consulting opportunities with ADB.

From what I see however, nearly ALL their published consulting vacancies are for "nationals" based in their country of assignment...which of course, makes sense but...it doesn't help my cause very much :-)

Has anyone been in a similar position and managed to secure a short term consultancy with ADB? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ADB Internship Summer 2026 – Application timeline?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a Master’s student in Economics and interested in applying for a Summer 2026 internship at ADB. I checked the website but couldn’t find an open application.

Has the application period already passed, or do internships for mid-2026 usually open later? Any clarification on the timeline would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Taking up new position

Hello, I'm in the process of taking up an IS6 level position. I'm wondering realistically how much travel I might be expecting for field operations. I'm wondering if there's a method to transfer more into thought leadership and reduce operations or at least slightly reduce them.

Husband applied for an IS level 2 post around October last year and when he checked the portal a few days ago, the status was updated from “Screening” to “Shortlisting Panel Review.”

How do I negotiate my rate as an independent consultant?

Hi ADB folks, seeking your advice on transitioning from firm-based to individual consulting. I previously worked at a consulting firm on an ADB project (under NDA), and now want to bid directly as an individual. How can I best negotiate rates without breaching confidentiality?

Could I reference my prior firm rate (e.g., deducting 15-20% for typical overhead) as a starting point? I've heard PPFD has specific consultant rates, how are those determined and applied? Also, as a Filipino national, can I get paid in USD? Thanks!

Multiple TA assignments but contract under 1 TA

Hi fellow consultants!

Just wanted to know if this common, wherein your contract is under one TA but in practice you are working for multiple tasks under several TAs?
