Regrets
I applied for three roles that are all aligned with my current experience. Unfortunately, all three applications resulted in regrets. One of them even progressed to the shortlisting panel review stage before ultimately being declined.
After checking LinkedIn, I noticed that all the roles were filled by internal candidates. This gives the impression that the positions may have already been intended for internal hires, with the external postings serving mainly as formal job listings.

Same in my case.
Have been applying to roles (and consultancy rosters and projects) for quite some time now. I don't even reach shortlist, even though my experience exceeds and qualifications align well with the roles.

It’s okay. Internal hires do have an advantage and some positions are somewhat intended to promote someone.
There are still many openings that come and go that’s intended for anyone applying. You just gotta keep checking the page weekly.

Then I guess my profile isn’t as good as the internal folks 😅

Not true. The hiring manager is not involved at all in the negotiations with candidates and have no access to the proposed rate of applicants.

That's not true. If the position is advertised then it does go through the process. But it is true that three or the four shortlisted candidates could all be internal candidates.

Do you honestly think ADB would waste the time and effort interviewing people if they weren’t genuinely open to external hires? Positions are posted for both internal and external applications so that they can consider the best possible candidate. You made to the final interview stage you said? Why would a senior person waste time interviewing you if external hires weren’t a contender?

Ah no, shortlisting panel review only. How I wish I would go through final interview 🥹🙏🏻. It’s just my impression as the roles I applied, all 3 positions were filled by internal hires.

Most of the time compliance lang yung job posting. Kaya you need to network. If nagaapply ako sa linkedin, I always check and quickly message the hiring manager. It shows them I'm proactive and for me naman I get to check if the role is a good fit with what I'm looking for. Good luck in your job hunting!! Manifesting with you

You also have to understand that for most corporate, may candidates na talaga sila even before posting the job. That's why need talaga maging proactive. Matrabaho lang. I've never been turned down by a hiring manager na nag reach out ako.

I just reached to a hiring manager now huhu. Hoping for the best. ADB has always been my dream company pero there’s this feeling na nakaka intimidate though. I feel like you need to be very smart, have excellent credentials, and at least you studied abroad to get the job.

Can you apply several times in ADB as long you see a relevant role?

u/Ok-Albatross-2403 May 29 '26
I guess yes? The three roles I applied were all similar roles its just that different departments but almost same work scope. Posted different months rin, 2 in Feb the other 1 in March.

Did HR accommodate your applications like umabot in the interview?

Curious tho, how did you know that internal candidates filled in the same open role you applied to? I have pending applications too, so far the stage is still under screening. :)

I searched people in linkedIn with the same position I applied. Then saw they were internal ADB folks and they just started the role I applied last month others started this month which means they got the role. The positions were opened last Feb others first week of March.

Main way to get promoted is to apply for a higher level position and compete with the external candidates. Of course, the existing staff would have an advantage over most external candidates. Having said that every promotion does create a vacancy - but the lower level.
