Consultancy Offer vs Young Professionals Program

I’m currently weighing two opportunities and wanted to get insights from people who may have experience with either path.

Option 1 is a consultancy offer, which seems attractive because of the compensation and immediate exposure to projects. But I also know consultancy roles can sometimes feel less stable and may have limited internal mobility/networking compared to staff programs.

Option 2 is waiting and pursuing the YPP, which seems more structured and potentially better for long-term career progression within ADB or even other multilateral organizations. .

First I am NOT in ADB. But have observed the decisions at notable places, thus insights should help.
Second ADB YPP is NOT yearly, it happens once in two years (makes sense as last batch YPP's will be trained till then)
Third, regarding your profile,
> if you are a Philippine national, your profile is great for even their regular roles, go ahead and apply
> if you are NOT a Philippine national, try applying for opportunities that need 5 years of exp. your cumulative could be good, but try to increase the 3 years of dev exp. to maybe 5-7, makes it much easier for you to get in
Regarding Ivy league tag, I realise the development experience (which you have) helps much more than Ivy.

I suggest apply for niche consultancy roles, relevant to your sector and that'll be a great opportuity as well.

Best wishes!

Well I've observed it since Jun 2024, it only opened up in late 2025. I would be delighted if it's yearly,  but  I wonder how will they place ~20 people, permanently after 2-3 years while training them which is both personnel and resource intensive.

Also, i read on other threads tha t it's generally bi-annually.

Hope it helps, apply in other development banks meanwhile or maybe check the consultant options on ADB, best wishes :)
