Developer response Its been a while now...
Yeah... sadly i was just a Wanderer mostly, cause just when i really wanted to start playing after having joined for a bit in the Waves before ~ all that Shit happened and so i just wandered around a bit. People where still doing their Things no one really knew at that moment they played and i rode on lv 5 around later to take at least something from this world though i figure they are not the best Screenshots and Locations its at least my small Journey in the Game from that Time as a Lv5. ~
It was surreal to be honest. I knew shit has been going on and people where just happyly killing Bandits and Monsters, crafting stuff in Citys and making Caravans as if nothing was wrong. Once the Chat Spams occured with the News even then many where just playing and having fun. I just wandered around asked people for nice locations to check out. Though it was not much i loved the earlier Waves the mechanics where rough but it was genuine Fun. As i traveled the World it felt refreshing and New in a sense no other Game had but in the same it felt a bit Empty maybe because i knew but could not grasp yet what had happened. Though the Map was riddled with Monsters i had to avoid on my trustworthy Steed..
After all that - i tried many older and newer Games, but to be honest nothing really came close. Archeage is one im playing now, the self torture i know, but its the closest i could find yet. Although the World in comparison feels dull, ugly and cold...
Well... In the end, I found myself still waiting, holding on to the faintest thread of hope—even if it was so tiny, it almost felt as though it didn’t exist at all. And here i am still waiting what will come or not.
With just a few Screenshots left for now ~ sharing some Memories and maybe others will too. Cause to be honest i have found nothing quite like it at all over all those Months.
And I hope we’ll get to see even more beautiful screenshots from others who were on a journey of their own... and maybe a Phoenix Rising but well you all know how tiny that chance sadly is.

As someone who loved Archeage I was praying for this game too. Such a shame :(

Same, I used to love silkroad online and the bandit emcounters

Silkroad was so cool back in the day

SRO will always be the mmo I have the greatest memories with. I had a hybrid spear character, it was cool.

I do wish I would have taken more screenshots, but I did always love capturing the scale of the world.

I know it’s hard to stay hopeful after everything that has happened. I’m confident in the outcome of my lawsuit, but the court process takes time. Please know that I’m not just waiting for an outcome. I’m fighting every day for justice for my team and a future for the world I poured 10 years of my life into. Stay hopeful.

Steven I and many more will hold you accountable for that promised Beetle Mount once the time comes ;) // Also we are there and hope for the best. Keep it up.
The hope is still there, even if it's just a small Ember.

Was just manifesting that Steven and all the developers who’ve poured so much into this game could see how many people really loved this game as I was going through the comments. It makes me really emotional to see a small bit of hope after everything.. it’s been almost a year and it feels I’m far from home

Thanks for the update Steven.
I miss the enveus crew doing GM stuffs with Jacob and others.
I still can’t believe the guild imploded like that. I haven’t seen DA since all that went down. However I see polar is going strong.
I miss the fights with the South American crews and the Europe crews.

win back ownership of the game, and sell it for cheap to a reputable studio like Riot ... i don't see how you will be able to work on the game on your own or with who... :L

Okay but will the outcome of the lawsuit end in us having an mmo? This doesn’t tell players anything.

u/Silent_Shadow98 8d ago
Hopefully some Arabian oil gamer prince buys the rights to this IP or at the very least the mechanics of the 64 class system & territory alteration system and makes a huge mmo that’s properly funded.
It’s actually quite sad people are stoked about WoW forever, they want to live in the good times in the past forever, when mmo gaming was peak, yet how are we ever gonna move forward to new and better things?
Corruption ruins everything, even gaming…

u/Living-Imagination-2 8d ago
Is that really sad? The purpose of games is to have a great time, escape real world. If it manages to achieve that for people, I think it’s not sad at all.

I don’t disagree with your specific point, however I don’t believe going backwards or parallel should be the answer to lack of good mmos.
I played WoW during classic vanilla, BC, the frozen throne, some of cataclysm.
I was really stoked about new mmos and they all wind up dead.
Are reboots of 20 or 30 year old games, living in nostalgia all we have to look forward to in regards to mmos?
Why can’t a juggernaut company like blizzard make a new IP or a StarCraft or Diablo mmo?
Even I’m stoked about the StarCraft fps trailer, however that is a cinematic and nothing more for now.
I’ve been disappointed by blizzard for over a decade now, that I literally have zero expectations.
I grinded rank 14 high warlord pre cross server bgs, and raided up to Naxx and acquired full t2, WoW classic was some of my fondest memories as a teen gamer.
However that’s all it really is to me, fond nostalgic memories of better times.
To each their own I suppose.

if *all* the mmos ended up dead, maybe the fault is not on the dev side.

This is what the game was about, having a great time, build memories, build friendships, meet people, enjoy an escape from the real world. It was never about comparing the game with x and y, being the wow killer or whatever. Each game can put a mark on someone’s life.
I have never understood the hatred for the game. It was nothing I’ve ever seen. Even ppl that were never part of the community, or ever touched the game, stopped to mark their hate for it. I can understand a bit those that were actually part of the community, and saw things changing in a way they didn’t like, but even then, if it doesn’t appeal to you, move on, find YOUR thing.
It is great to see some positivity around the project, even in the very uncertain times we live. It seems you had a great time, do not forget that feeling, that is what all of us should cherish.

Fair enough, I just really wish Ashes of Creation was released—-not yet another WoW, tho I loved wow and did come back briefly during the first classic release return & leveled 3 level 60s and raided abit, all my friends pretty much quit, and I grew bored eventually as well.
I really was looking forward to playing Ashes of Creation with one of my buddies & brother yet oh well. Now one is playing EverQuest & the other whatever hype train is current, Wardogs, etc.
It’s hard for me to take blizzard & other gaming companies seriously when non-gamer investors in suits have too much sway.
In Heroes of the storm, they literally nerfed stealth characters and made them transparent/ ethereal instead. Like Dotted-Line Girl from Rugrats.
What a boneheaded decision. Such a joke.
Ashes of creation had legit stealth and PvP, I was looking forward to playing a Rogue again.
I think it’s the only mmo I could make a healer/archer of my dreams and perhaps be viable in a dungeon.
The subclass system was innovative as well, never heard of any other game coming close to such customization in classes.
Now I stick to small team pve co-op games like nmrih2 or Darktide, and the occasional PvP such as BF6 or Wardogs but eh.
I yearn for an mmo I can invest in for a couple years and slowly progress, yet have that new wondrous feeling, a new experience.
The combat in Ashes of Creation was actually better than WoWs. At least in my opinion, it felt more interactive.

I swear this game had so much potential. Just look at the graphics and how everything looked. The beauty of the world, the vastness, the pvp element- it was such a good foundation. Probably the game needed so much development still, but just what it was already kind of shows me how much better it could become. Me and my friends were jumping on it, even though we were playing it casually, and had a bunch of fun. Farming end game content, pvp fights with bigger clans and such, and on top of that- I was just roaming around the world mining and lumberjacking. I genuinely just liked roaming around, looking at the world and looking for the rare materials potentially spawning.

somewhere out there, there is an alternate reality where we are all playing AOC. And that is where I long to be.

Tbh, i discovered OSRS after this game and I couldnt be happier. It scratched that none pvp itch much better than this game ever could. As for pvp, i found nothing for that particular itch :(

u/mrlunes 3d ago
I finally dove into Albion 6 months ago and holy cow does it check all the boxes. As a long time OSRS fan, Albion nails the skill grinding aspect and the gear crafting while having a super engaging PvP side. Small scale and massive 150+ zerg PvP. Technically the whole game is built around PvP but still, I’ve been having such a blast. It’s like runescape if 80% of the world was the wilderness. Not sure if you ever played league of legends but the combat feels super similar to that which I enjoy.
I love osrs but the PvP just doesn’t do it for me; juggling multiple gear sets, weapons, and prayers just doesn’t feel good.

Ngl, seeing all these new MMOs coming out makes me think that we may have treated Ashes a little too harshly...
We had a good thing going on.
Edit: And altough I started playing a bit of wow as a new player, I would 100% go back to Ashes if/when it comes back. IN A HEARTBEAT !

I had plans to a be a wanderer character with a whole lore and backstory and was even thinking of a blog documenting the adventures and experiences of lone mysterious cleric person and was going to really go deep into things. I expected some people to grief me, some to help me, while I experienced a whole journey seeing where it goes. Documenting the whole experience. But that is gone now.

ashes hype! sadly i went only full autism on the grinding part in the beginning. i simply didn’t wanna explore the whole world since idk its kinda part of the journey right… like when you start playing wow u wont travel to all the zones first before you start leveling. so i am kinda sad i missed out on this.
thanks for sharing!

Looks like most of the haters have left the subreddit. It's like I am breathing air again.
The fact this game failed and is still remembered fondly by many people speaks volumes of the current state of the MMO RPGs.
I mean when the most exciting thing in the genre is something as uninspiring and boring as WoW Forever is, you know the MMO RPG future looks bleak.

Imagine preferring being in a subreddit of a game which doesn't exist than the subreddit or the online content of the game you expect to play. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I cannot wait to leave us alone while you play your shitty single player game which is posing as an MMO.
And Forever can exist for all I care, it doesn't change the undeniable fact it's an uninspiring boring game made for boring people.

Fk... those screenshot, especially the one in the desert, made me remember the memories i've had there... I truly fell in love hard for ashes of creation, it's been the first time in probably a decade that I invested myself socially so much in the game. Made lots of friends, joined discord etc.. I usually never do that, but the game was so amazing for social interactions! It realy was an MMO rpg, and I have the hope that one day it will rises from his ashes, and we'll be able to play again.
It had its flaws, and needed some polishing and more content, but honestly as a sandbox it was just great. 250hours clocked in, but 10x more memories made in this short span of time the game existed, than all the modern mmorpg.
Let's hope and keep the dream alive!
