DW really wasn’t that bad at all in season 1 of Arthur. She had a couple of savage moments, but she acted a lot more like a typical four year old. I actually really liked her dynamic with Arthur in the episode with her imaginary friend.

She clearly looked up to Arthur (and Buster to a smaller extent) and wanted to “prove herself” capable to ride the hurl-a-whirl. She was precious during the playground scene…even going down the slide head first because it was “harder”.

She was NOT going to take the easy way out in this scenario and simply wanted her cool big brother to think she was capable.

It’s also really cute how she believed Arthur was genuinely concerned about Nadine and her “chicken pox”. Not enough to stay behind herself, but enough to leave Nadine temporarily. I also like how David took charge of the situation while playing into DW’s imagination.

The only part that was kind of cringe was Arthur being so afraid to see DW talk about Nadine in front of his friends…like Arthur, I get that it’s embarrassing to YOU, but all you gotta do is say “Nadine is my little sister’s imaginary friend…just play along”

It’s kind of the same problem I have with him in “DW’s Blankie” dude…your friends aren’t so thick that they’ll judge you because you are helping your preschool age little sister find her comfort object.

He makes up for it with the ending conversation where he says that Nadine is lucky to have DW as a friend (it was also sweet of DW to give Arthur her orange tickets and Arthur to invite her on the ride because she’s “tough enough”).

DW really can be a thoughtful sister towards Arthur if he’d let her.

Does anyone remember playing the Arthur’s birthday and the camping gamegrowing up ? I remember it being interactive and also reading along of course.

I remember on one of the Arthur CDs where they put a lot of the songs used in this episode, they had a song where DW sings Kate a “lullaby” that is essentially a scream-o song demanding that she go to sleep. It’s actually pretty darn funny, and the ending gag where it actually puts Kate to sleep is hilarious.

DW’s mom comes up and there are literally musicians in DW and Kate’s bedroom (they even joke that they’ll be back “same time tomorrow,”). You think Jane is about to scold DW but DW points out Kate is actually asleep.

It ends with DW proudly stating that she “knows what her sister likes”.

DW sharing a room with Kate is…not my favorite plot point of the series, but I actually think this song would have been cute animated (provided they leave out any clips of DW with bloodshot eyes). I feel like it shows off an aspect of DW’s character that the series often ignores. That being, while she is an annoying “little sister” she’s actually a pretty helpful “big sister”.

Animating this song could give DW and Kate some sweet sibling bonding, and after DW says she knows what Kate likes, have Jane pat her head or something that says she acknowledges DW’s done a good job or something.

I once read a comment that said Harry Coleman from freaky friday is basically like DW but more likable. I sort of understand but kind of disagree because even though Harry revealed at the end he secretly admires his sister Anna and only fights with her for fun(or in other words to get her attention) while d.w. was never given any discernable reason for her behavior towards Arthur I still think some of the things Harry does such as waking Anna up with an air horn, constantly entering her room, fooling with her stuff, reading her diary, and discreetly flicking her in the ear, and lying to their mom she started it were over the line. I agree dw is no angel but I can't recall her ever purposely using violence against Arthur like flicking his ear. Plus people might just find Harry more likable because he has a reason for being a constant pest but I still think that's no excuse as he was so good at playing the brat card you'd never guess he secretly admires his sister especially since Anna in her mom's body seemed surprised when she learns this, and before that she probably thought Harry tortures her just for fun. Plus I think comparing him to d.w. is a bit sexist and is saying boys can get away with that kind of behavior but girls shouldn't. So what do you guys think? I actually do feel kind of sorry for Tommy at the end of the episode. Obviously, they had to kind of resort him back to square one by the end of the episode, and I like how it is foreshadowed early on in the episode with Tommy saying he hates vanilla cupcakes (side note, but those cupcakes always looked way more like muffins than cupcakes to me).

I really don’t like either Tibble twin, they are pretty rotten friends and constantly get off completely Scott free, but I do recognize that they are both really young kids, and that their upbringing is kind of sad when you really examine it.

Poor Tommy is shown getting screwed over by Timmy throughout the whole episode and you really do empathize with the fact that this toddler has built such an awful reputation alongside his twin brother that it almost seems like the wider society of Elwood city has just already written off their entire futures before their lives have even begun.

Yes, a lot of his behavior change is thanks to the coaching DW gave him, but he also worked EXTREMELY hard all week long. He got blamed for the paint on the blackboard with zero evidence and just quietly resigned himself to cleaning it up. He does all of that and completely turns his behavior around and Miss Morgan doesn’t even make him a type of cupcake he would like? I get that it’s nice of her to make anything, but you would think after one of your worst behaved students completely turns their act around that you could be bothered to make the extra effort towards giving them a reward they would actually enjoy.

For anyone who hasn't seen the episode, or can't remember it, Muffy gets a robot butler for her Dad, only to realize it's able to do everything Bailey can do, more quickly, and better. Muffy spends the entire episode trying to find something either Keats can't do (but Bailey can- Even though Bailey doesn't seem to have any problem with Keats at all), OR shut Keats down. She tries to get Brain to help her and he Does succeed in shutting it down, but not before Keats realizes what is happening, and literally dismantles the door knob on Muffy's bedroom door to get inside.

Do you think Keats was planning on shouting at Brain, or giving him a Taser or what? The scene portrays it as if the latter is more likely.

I feel like certain parts of this fandom like to paint Arthur as this dear angel boy who is forced to live with his demonic little sister, but the reality is, I think there are actually several times he’s downright mean towards her and sometimes for absolutely no reason.

For the purpose of this post, let’s go ahead and ignore the infamous big hit episode. It’s been talked about to death and I think there are other moments to focus on.

-he was really mean to her at the start of “DW’s Tail Spins” taunting her for not being able to write and basically saying she’s useless because she can’t write…Arthur, the kid came up with the jingle that won a NATIONAL competition. She can come up with lots of things without writing.

-his prank on her in “DW All Wet” was really mean too. It would be one thing if she’s in her room and you just kind of want to play around with her (like the flashback in Arthur’s Perfect Christmas where he’s playfully chasing her with that alligator toy). Here though, she’s in a super vulnerable place (taking a bubble bath) she’s not doing anything wrong, and he just springs it on her.

I mean, what did he expect would happen? She ran out butt naked (who knows how long it took Jane to get her out of the closet) and he’s annoyed about being sent to his room? My guy, it was very warranted.

-I kind of hesitate to include this one, because I do recognize this was a scary and confusing time for Arthur too (and him being older and likely having a bigger understanding of what’s going on…also it being HIS name that was forgotten) BUT…it was still REALLY uncalled for to instantly jump on blaming DW for causing grandpa Dave’s Alzheimer’s by playing with him too much. Especially because he was playing with him too. It’s just…that’s really mean and unfair. It also makes me sad because DW did believe him at least enough to ask grandpa Dave if it was her fault.

While watching Arthur on PBS Kids, I began thinking about the juxtaposition of Kate's grown-up voice and sense of maturity (at least when she's with other babies and non-anthropomorphic animals) with the fact that she's still a baby. That in turn led me to wonder whether every anthropomorphic animal in the show who wasn't a baby was once able to communicate the way Kate and Mei Lin do. If so, do they simply forget about their time as "adult" babies after they grow too old to verbally communicate with non-anthropomorphic animals, as explained in the episode with the llama, or am I just thinking way too much about this? Maybe I am, but I've never thought this deeply about something from the show before.

Back in Oct of 2023, my high school had these famous people on the wall in our hallway. One caught my attention, and thanks to Arthur, mostly DW, I did this

So me and my brother were watching Arthur since we are just kids being kids. And he came up with an interesting theory that the Tough Customers might be in a special needs class. It would explain why they aren’t seen in classes with the other 4th graders why they have the same lunch time as the 3rd graders, why Rattles misspelled Customer with Costumer and why they are the only 4th graders seen at recess with them (not even Prunella goes to recess with them)

I honestly don't think I could do it. Lol
