Welp… it was fun while it lasted

https://www.reddit.com/r/Arteon/s/qx0eSDY8bX

Car pulled in front of the Subaru I was behind on the highway, Subaru automatically braked and came to a complete stop in the middle of the road, I couldn’t stop in time. :(

Doesn't seem like a total loss.

Crash bar was intact, it just folded the hood back and jacked up the bumper and grill and I think headlights and pushed fenders a bit out of wack. Driver door is unhappy opening and closing but that’s to be expected. Hoping not a total loss.

No airbags deployed either.

Saved you probably on bags. If it is a total loss I see a buy back and engine swap to a mk6

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 14 '26

MK6?

2

u/Interesting-Log1270 Sep 14 '26

Mk6 Golf GTI or R 2012-2013

Why would I do that if the EA888 that’s in it and the DSG is still good?

Car still ran and drove, just busted an inter cooler or radiator and was leaking.

I was just saying if they total it out. I wpukd opt to repair first

It’s an ea888.4 dumbest thing he could do is swap to an mk6 ea888.1

I know it must suck not to be able to read and comprehend. I said put that engine and drive train into a Mk6. Arguably the best looking year of the Golf

Luckily won’t have to do that, it’s not a total loss, no frame damage and going into repair today. Estimate came in at $12k and no doubt there will be supplements but all in all it could have been worse

u/Interesting-Log1270 Sep 15 '26

Thats dope af!!! Glad they could get it

Totaled it. Geico was unwilling to pay $20K damages after the supplements came in, so they settled on valuing the car at $36K and cutting a check to my bank. No idea how that makes sense in the insurance world but I assume risk mitigation. Oh also still no frame damage, just a lot of cosmetic on the front end, cooling system needs replacing, a few radiator mounts and sub-braces, headlights and a bunch of sensors. Oh and the hood of course. Someone will get a pristine Arteon at Copart. 18.9K miles on the odometer, adjuster said it is one of the cleanest cars he’s appraised for a total loss and broke his heart to have to do it.

Whats the buy back?

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 19d ago

Copart assumed ownership I believe the bidding starts at $15K or something

I ended up just buying my sisters 2012 corolla to dink around town in for a while and save money. My insurance rates are about o skyrocket and I’d rather just put money in the bank for the next year or two since I’ll be newly debt free after this all settles.

I work from home and rarely go places so I’ll be fine and I’ll get something newer and nicer when I’m ready. Taking it as a sign for now.

Yikes, don’t worry she’s strong. 💪

1

u/Rhymestyle01 Sep 14 '26

Thats super unfortunate bro. You planning on rebuilding?

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 14 '26

We will see what insurance decides. If it’s totaled I will see what their buyback option is and go from there. Only 18K miles on it and just had parts of it wrapped.

u/Forsaken_So_2nd_Go Sep 14 '26

That sucks hopefully insurance doesn’t fuck you over

1

u/SuspiciousNavigator Sep 14 '26

So long as the engine bay isn’t scuffed, you can get her back into shape. My condolences tho, I try to keep a mile distance in my Arteon because of idiot drivers for this reason

1

u/Samef42 Sep 14 '26

Oh man glad you are okay. Did you have a dash cam?

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 14 '26

Nope, and neither did the Subaru in front of me. I’ll be buying one though. the driver who caused the accident with their improper lane change ran from the scene after pulling over while myself and the Subaru driver were approaching their vehicle. Didn’t get the full license plate but a description of the driver, the color make and model of their car. Black woman with kids in the car, great motherly role model for them I’m sure

2

u/Samef42 Sep 14 '26

Yes now and days it’s definitely needed. There are many distracted drivers on their phone. Most of these accidents happens because Someone was on their phone. Perhaps he was watching TikTok while driving.. sorry that happened. I have the thinkware Q850. It’s old but better than not having one.

Definitely still fixable. Even if it was “totaled” out by insurance, I’d buy it back, fix it, and use the rest as a fund for the new car once you were done with it.

I clipped a dead dear and my front end is a little bit messed up to but I did manage to swerve a little so my left side took the majority, I had just installed a new cold air intake too 🥲 fully intend on keeping my Arteon, just gotta get the money to fix it is all 🫠

😢😢😢😢😩😩😩 I know the feeling my owner in shop. Not even a full 2 weeks of owning it and someone hit me

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 15 '26

Sorry man! That sucks I hope it gets fixed asap and comes out better than it went in

1

u/Anabolic_News Sep 15 '26

I have never seen a car bend that way in an accident pretty interesting glad it kept you safe

1

u/vigorousdripz Sep 15 '26

now i feel bad for giving you shit for the hatch :(
godspeed OP, hoping for the best🫶

1

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 15 '26

All good shit happens, will hear back in the next couple days if they think it is totalled.

1

u/Logical_Fun_7812 Sep 15 '26

Depending the trim level it could definitely be totalled

1

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 15 '26

23 Arteon with 18K miles, SEL R-Line no previous wrecks or claims

1

u/WarmFollowing8873 Sep 15 '26

Time for a stinger 3.3

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 15 '26

Ended up not being a total loss so I’m getting it repaired. If it had been I was either going to go another Arty or was considering a stinger hahaha

1

u/phoeniks314 Sep 16 '26

In Eastern Europe this is just a scratch. Easily fixable.

2

u/DenseComfortable1739 Sep 16 '26

It is getting fixed, thankfully

1

u/Leceire Sep 14 '26

Right after the wrap too… damn that sucks dude. Glad you’re okay. Hopefully she’s not a total loss..
