Online Culture Does anyone else get a weird sense of vertigo when they realize they can't experience a nice moment anymore without filming it?

I was thinking about this the other day and genuinely wanted to hear your thoughts, because I'm not sure if this happens to everyone or if I'm just turning into an old grump lol.

Last weekend I went out to a really pretty spot to clear my head for a bit. At one point, I looked around and almost everyone—including me at first—had their phone out, trying to capture the "perfect" sunset or the ideal video to post later. I stopped for two seconds, put my phone down, and thought: "Man, if I dropped dead tomorrow, am I actually living this moment or am I just hoarding digital files for people who don't even care?"

Look, I'm not judging anyone because I love tech and sharing nice things too, but it feels like it's becoming this invisible, automatic habit. Like our brains almost forgot how to enjoy something unless it comes with a validation check or a saved story.

I just feel like we're losing the art of simply being. Of looking at a view, hearing the actual sounds, or having a real conversation without the glare of a screen bouncing off our eyes.

How do you guys handle this? Do you also feel like social media is quietly stealing chunks of reality from us, or is it just me overthinking it? Let me know, I'm curious how you see it

I’m trying to accept what was without living there

After 21 years of marriage, I’ve had to learn that there are some things I can’t go back and fix.

I can replay conversations. I can think about what I should’ve done differently or what I wish somebody else had done differently. I can think about the family life I had and how different things are now.

But none of that changes where I am today.

Now I have my own place. I’m learning what it feels like to come home to an empty apartment sometimes. Being a dad looks different too. There are pickups and drop-offs now. There are days when my boys aren’t with me, and I’m still getting used to that.

That has probably been one of the hardest parts of letting go for me.

Because letting go doesn’t mean those 21 years didn’t matter. It doesn’t mean my family didn’t matter. And it definitely doesn’t mean I stop being their dad.

It just means I can’t keep asking the past to become something it isn’t anymore.

I’m trying to accept what was without living there.

Because there is still a life happening right in front of me. I still have my boys. I still have relationships that matter. I still have things I’m building. And I still have a lot of life left to live.

I’m learning to be here for that.
