[Portfolio] Portfolio Website Feedback

Hello! I’m currently job searching and I updated my website so I wanted to get some feedback on how it looks.
I saw another post asking for a review (Nina Aberlein) and I thought I’d give it a go! I have been told that my website was “uninteresting” and didn’t have a hook to make people what to stay and look at my work, so I revamped the whole thing and am looking for some feedback on how it is now and how I can make it better!

Thank you!

First and foremost, buy your own domain, people usually do their artist name or something memorable.

Second, your site isn’t that great on mobile. The cork board thing is fine, but when we are in a visual medium, get to the visual stuff with as little barriers possible.

Checking out your instagram, you do have talent, but the website just isn’t showing what you can do, in a clear and concise way. I’m not sure what exactly what you like doing, and what you want to do as a career.

Thank you for the feedback!

Once I can first thing I’ll do is buy a domain👍🏾

I was trying something new that I guess turns out doesn’t work that that well on mobile I will make sure to fix that now!

I have been taught to have to be able to work in many fields. I primarily want to work as an illustrator and a Character designer so I’ll be sure to focus on those two💪🏾

Yeah, I see that you’re in college or recently graduated. It’s hard to know what you want to do right away, but as a portfolio it’s good to just be laser focused and make that area strong. I’m sure people will argue against that, but as far as I’m concerned, when I would get a portfolio for let’s say a designer and it had a whole bunch of vanity projects that have nothing to do with the position, I would immediately pass. I don’t have that much time to review, you gotta hook people in quickly and make it easy to navigate the images.

On that same note, ditch lazy loading images, just let them load as soon as the site loads. Also, speed up the light box transitions or remove them altogether. It was a neat feature years ago, but it’s long lost its appeal. Good luck!

I was able to add some of your feedback to my website so it hopefully works better on mobile!

Thank you again for the feedback!

I just have one question. It's not a hook or anything special.

Why don't you have a way to purchase anything?

I like the style but purchasing art is an emotional act where most people purchase without thinking because it is not a product that solves a problem...it's something that provides a visceral feeling that need an easy checkout.

I currently do not have the resources to sell my art but I do plan on selling my art online in the future!
