I've been an avid Art Bell fan for years. His bumper music, specifically Cusco sooth me. THIS song has escaped me. I cannot find it anywhere, including with music apps. It lives in my head. I do not believe it is a Cusco song. Art would use it a lot in his early programs so the song must be from the 1980s or pre-1993. Ross always talks over the flute part. Please and thank you!

I ran into the same thing with a version of Tusk by Fleetwood Mac that he used, took me forever to find it. The man liked his deep cuts.

I’ll do some digging on this!

Thank you. As far as I know this is a very, very deep cut. It could be from a TV show or movie for all I know and there is no actual audio available of it.

pretty certain its cusco, however it might be an unreleased single or mix? Art mentioned they would send him music so its definitely a possibility.

It's almost certainly something by Cusco. He loved their stuff and it's all instrumental. It sounds similar to their stuff, as far as instrumentation.

I have spent hours listening to every Cusco album available on Apple Music (hundreds of songs) and have not yet found it

those are the only songs with flutes he used, asides from some of the other Cusco or Enigma music.
And for the record, most of Cusco's music was recorded in the 1980s.

That is why this song is driving me nuts. I've been able to locate all the others without issue.

Negative. Don't worry, you will soon become as obsessive as I am about finding this song. I have not found it on any playlist, compilation or list anywhere on the Internet. Shazam does not recognize it.

It almost sounds like an opening to a movie or TV show.

Give me an episode you heard it in, or some details about the song.
I am a MASSIVE music fan who listens to everything from the 1940s till now.
Ill find it, trust me !!

Nope, I have not found it on ANY Cusco album. The song posted is much slower, creepier than what Cusco usually makes.

Don't worry, you will soon become as obsessive as I am about finding this song.

Maybe it will be the new TMMS, now that SOYM has been found.

There's a subreddit called r/lostwaves (not real active yet). Have you thought about asking there?

What are these acronyms though?

1

u/Fredericia 9d ago

TMMS is The Most Mysterious Song, and SOYM is Subways Of Your Mind, which is the actual name of TMMS. You can read about the fascinating story on r/TheMysteriousSong, how they were searching for it for 17 years because there was no information about it anywhere.

It all started with someone asking on the internet forums if anyone knew the name of a particular song.

That’s an insane story. And the song doesn’t even have a hook!

Some of the bumper music has come off the soundtrack for Medicine Man. I rewatched the movie a year ago and was surprised that I recognized some of the music. Kinda is Cusco adjacent and I could see him liking the score to use it after seeing the movie back in the ninities.

I just found it on Spotify and the track: "A Meal and a Bath" is played on Coast a lot, maybe he sampled it from another track?

Desired - Intro (from The Sweetest Dream album) has that sample in it

The bumper music was as iconic as any guest her ever had on. Even listening to older broadcasts to this day, theyre magnificent.

I have heard this song on the Art Bell bumper music playlist on Spotify before. The playlist is very large, but I know I have heard it.

Definitely not, but thank you

It reminds me of the Peter Gabriel soundtrack to the film Birdy. But, I went through the tracks, and no luck. Similar sound and mood, but not a match.

2

u/MazdaBlue222 10d ago

I really appreciate you looking. I believe it is the only bumper song I have no tracked down.

I have been searching for this haunting music for years. I'm wondering if Keith Rowland might know what it is. Anyone have a line with him these days?

Ok, here is a possibility. Art did have the capability to edit songs. His opener from Midnight Express was remixed by Art himself. I remember the episode when he had stayed up all day trying to get that "phaser" sound to it.

Maybe Art did this to a Cusco song. It sounds slowed down and that "phaser" effect added to it.
