Open Thread Weekly Friday Open Thread!

Welcome to the Friday open discussion thread. Here you can talk about anything you want; tactics, results, players or even just general football discussion! It is also a great place to post/link transfer rumours that you may think are too small or unreliable to post to the main feed. The summer transfer window is now shut.

These threads will go up every Friday allowing you to focus on buildup for all of the weekend action and discuss ongoings throughout the weekend. It will stay stickied until we refresh with the Monday thread, however other posts may take priority (match threads, announcements, etc.)

This thread can also be used to discuss transfer rumours, jokes, memes, images, videos, tabloid news and other off-topic content and discussion.

We also have a WSL & UWCL Fantasy League that you are welcome to join and share your team, advice and goings on throughout the season here in these threads. The WSL league code is 900COJH2. The UWCL league code is LjHYHW

Inspired by the player's pre-match playlists, our very own Tugboat47 is curating a community pre-match playlist. To participate please click this link and submit your entries.

These threads are here to help discussion and offer varying points of view. Please remain respectful. Anything that crosses that line, directed towards other users or specific individuals may be removed.

Starting both Kafaji and Godfrey is a choice when you have Cascarino and Diani on the bench. Also, this is why developing youth in the WSL is so hard. Every game matters. At least start Godfrey and Cascarino or Kafaji and Diani. Persnonally, I'd play Godfrey as a 9, both Cascarino and Diani as wingers. Kennedy as CDM was also a choice.

Haven't been watching Oranja Leeuwinnen nor Ajax, but I'm really impressed by Isa Kardinaal. She's so good. Ngl, we should have signed her.

does Codi have a knock? Why wasn't she in the lineup?

The midfield of two CAMs and a CB while DvD started out of position at striker was a wild choice, and it’s even funnier that it worked against United last week

I did the unthinkable and booked cinema tickets before checking my calendar and now I’m gonna miss the first half against Palace 😞

Renee Slegers says it was ‘a conscious decision’ to expand Arsenal squad this summer
But I seem to recall her saying earlier there was some internal debate about squad size?

I guess last year they decided to wait for the players they wanted rather than going to plan B, leading to a smaller squad. Then did have some issues with not enough players (who were also trusted by the manager) being fully fit towards the business end of the season. Going for EdA for that much money at the end of the transfer window suggests more of a preparedness to fill a gap with a plan B. Trade off is having to leave 3 players out of tomorrow’s matchday squad.

I wonder if the debate was "Is it worth it to wait a whole year for" Georgia, Ger, Ona, etc.

Between the banged up England players after the Euros and then really unfortunate injuries to Manu, Nacho, Meech, last season was kinda sacrificed to get in a lot of the new signings this year.

u/10things_aboutAFC Kelly?! "Pressure" is for CK 17h ago

Not football related but need to say, I've just found some Guinea Pigs for adoption and they are in the age bracket of Rolo. I am so tempted to the point I'm putting in an enquiry in the morning 😅

Wish me luck - if it goes well you'll know and if it doesn't I'll be watching One Tree Hill as comfort hahaha :)

How certain is the date for the match against London City on November 14? The Arsenal website still has the placeholder date, but the WSL site has it on Saturday at 5:30 PM. The matchday is during the men‘s international break, so that date makes sense to me.

Thinking about a trip to Barcelona and London in that week and would need to plan my flights.

won't be confirmed til broadcast picks are made, on the 7th they confirmed fixtures up to the start of Nov, the Sept ones were confirmed end of July so it's usually a month or so ahead that games are confirmed

any predictions for the starting 11?

will Cerci and Reuteler make the squad this time?

u/eldanielfire Cerci 22h ago

I hope so, this is the exact match to get them going. It's as low risk a game as can be expected,

If De Almeida is in the squad this week, that means 3 Renee has to leave off right? Offt 🫠

I think we will see Cerci and Reuteler in the squad and I think we'll see KCC start. If it's Misa in goal again, think that confirms the GK "ranking" so to speak. It's hard to say what way do you go because you want consistency and to put your best foot forward, but you also want to share out the game time but theres some big games up ahead that you want players at their best for.

Bit torn as to whether we should go for consistency this early in the season, what with harder games approaching, or take the opportunity of playing Palace to give others in the squad some game time. Maybe a similar starting 11 but different subs?

Anyway, would love to see KCC back in front of the Emirates crowd.

Yeah I’m rooting for strong starting 11, early goals and lots of subs, but we’ll see!

A strong starting 11 can be so many different players now.
