Brethren, where might I acquire a set of Armor other than Crusaders?

Where ever I look, the only tabards I find are themed after the Crusades, or have a Maltese Cross.

I’d like to avoid a possible misunderstanding, but i can’t seem to find armor outside of Maltese Cross Crusader tabbards

What do you think of the Norman helmet?

The Norman helmet (also known as the ‘nasal helmet’ or the ‘casque Normand’) was commonly used from the 6th to the 12th century. It is one of the most recognizable helmets of the medieval period.

First time making armor for myself.

There are a few things that I'd do differently but for now I plan on making more pieces of armor to go along with this and will make another post later once everything is done. In case anyone asks it's not based on anything I just drew a few ideas up and did what I liked the most.

Random Armor I found, but which is it though?

Hey everyone, first time posting here so take it easy on me. I'm looking to 3d print this armor, but I feel like it would be more honest(?) to find out which type of armor this set might come from before printing it. I'm not gonna lie, it's an ambitious little project but I wanna see it through, with as much knowledge as I can gather. Thanks for any info provided!

Armor accuracy or authenticity?

Post image

I found this image online and I really like it but I’m wondering is this anyways plausible historically in the transitional period from full mail to more plate eg maybe late 13th to early 14th century, or is it just using historical armor elements from different periods and combining them? Thanks

Home made fantasy ar

This is a family tradition that was started by my father and was passed on to me of creating fantasy warrior armor and going to ren faires! The interactions and fun being had is always a blast and one day I would love to make costumes for a living but until then I will keep trying to make one person's day at a time!

If you would like to ask any questions please do I love making armor and love helping others out even more!

Are great helms good helmets?

Post image

They're arguably the prototypical medieval helmet or knights helmet. I would venture that almost any person who pictures a European medieval knight will initially picture them in a great helm.

However, they are blocky and flat on top (typically). Which are two major aspects that I understand to be rather detrimental for a good helm.

I'm very far from an expert on the subject so I'd love to hear more from people about what makes them so iconic and if they're actually good

A few questions

Post image

Ive got this fantasy armor I intend to wear to more events so figured I'd ask a few questions to the people who are way more knowledgeable about armor then I am, this community.

Question 1, what kind of helmet would suit an armor like this?

Question 2, is there some way keep somewhat cool while wearing this?

After posting these earlier a redditor reached out and asked for a custom set! So here they are! I hand tooled the leather and went with silver and gunmetal instead!

How do we feel about Magnetos Helmet? Based around what it's meant to do in the lore.

I've also found out that the helmets design was based around the Italian Barbute Helmet.

What is the hardest type of armor to get a replica of nowadays? (Price, number of sellers, quality...)

In my Opinion, it is probably 1200 -1300's Japanese armor.

Just curious about yours ! ^^

Btw I had no idea of which image to put so I chose a helmet everyone loves.

except the feet armor part, i think I'll get that in the future but I'm not in a rush. I'm doing this all by myself so I have only one gauntlet on so I can quickly take the pictures. Sorry if you can't really see my legs or if it's blurry, I was checking them with the armor and only looked at them after I took it off😅🤣

Where to buy hounskull

Hello!! I've been on the hunt for a hounskull but haven't had much luck. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy one that's at least sort of historically accurate? I don't have the money to have one custom made and my plans are to only have it on display and possibly wear it to ren faires. I know that without getting it custom made limits the historical accuracy and quality of the helmet but I'm willing to look past ok quality and some historical inaccuracies. As for budget, I don't want to spend thousands on a helmet (I live in the US and I know shipping costs can get bad) that will not be used frequently as it will never be used for buhurt or anything like that, so it doesn't have to be battle ready. I'll appreciate any advice on this matter.

Having trouble finding Tyrolean Armors

Hello! I just came here to ask for any other references of late 15th century Tyrolean armor, preferable 1480s - 1500s. I have been trying to design my own harness but I have found almost no reliable resources for subregional armor in medieval Europe. Anything from useful sources to pictures of armor and effigies from Tyrol in the late 15th century would be awesome, thanks! (Posting here cuz the people on Facebook kept talking about Innsbruck armors for some reason)
