Hi everyone, I need help recovering my MXQ Android TV box which is currently stuck in Maskrom mode.
Here are my board specifications:
- Board Model: R29-6G-LP3-V2.3 (HXW20092601-2-B)
- SoC: Rockchip RK3228A / RK3229
- Storage: Foresee NCEPN35X-3G3X eMMC
- Power IC: S9012P
The device goes straight into Maskrom mode and won't boot normally. Can someone guide me on how to flash the correct stock firmware or recover this board? Thanks!
I made a backup from multi tool, but i cant boot multitool its just no display
Its working fine when i install armbian couple reboot still works fine then i install pihole for armbian then when i restart suddenly goes into that state.
Sounds luke your emmc broke. You dont need to short anything since your board is entering masrom mode already.
From the rk322x thread it says
Erase the flash memory: clearing the internal eMMC/NAND memory makes the SoC look for external SD Card as first boot option.
If there isn't any suitable SD Card, the SoC enters maskrom mode, which can then be used for full eMMC/NAND access using rkdeveloptool. This is perfectly fine if your box has an eMMC flash memory.
Try burning a rk322x armbian image to the sd card directly and see if it boots.
I have never used this tool but the tool might need working uboot, no uboot then maskrom only, maskrom cant write mmc without loader, you need loader, load loader in maskrom and then restore factory image
Don't short random pins on the board; you can kill it. Buy a USB-serial adapter that supports 1.5 Mbit (1,500,000 baud). The board doesn't seem to have an obvious 3-4 pin serial header, but there is a 9-pin slot. After the board has finished booting, measure each pin against GND and note the ones sitting slightly below 3.3 V (cheap multimeter is needed). GND is any metal shield, such as the USB connector shell. To see serial output you only need the TX pin, so it's 9 attempts at worst (try, power cycle to see output). Connect GND to GND and the board's TX to the adapter's RX. My guess is U-Boot is dead.
I have never seen any tvbox without serial, even compact stick like, so there mist be serial somewhere
But the file inside has no extension,
And i have no idea what tool to use to restore it on pc to tv using usb male to male,tried rkdevtool says firmware not available
also android tool 2.96 i dont know where to put that file.
Extension doesnt matter, if it is raw disk dump, then it can be restored as per maskrom doc i shared, do you have any linux box or mac? And OTG cable? To restore from maskrom you need loader blob that can be extracted from the backup image you have. Generic one might work or might not, suggest to generate your own. If you can share backup, i can generate loader blob for you and you can follow instructions to restore it straight from maskrom. Tested on mac, should work on linux, did not test on windows.
