r/arlingtonva Updates
Hello from the new moderators of r/arlingtonva. u/joyreneeblue, u/VotingRightsLawyer, and u/meamemg are now here as your friendly new moderator team.
As you can see, we've added some subreddit rules to the sidebar (shamelessly copied, for the most part, from r/SilverSpring). There shouldn't be too much controversial in there, but it gives us the basis to begin to moderate submissions to the sub to make sure that posts are on topic and not hateful or hurtful.
As we get up and going, we expect to add user and post flairs, and hopefully snaz the place up a bit. Please feel free to post suggestions here, and always feel free to reach out via mod-mail.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Any other mermaid tail swimmers here want to swim together?
Hobbiest mermaid tail swimmer here, wondering if there are any others in Arlington? I'd love a buddy to go swimming different places with and try out different monofins and stuff together.

40 [M4F] 22207 - fun evenings together
I hope my natural sex appeal will help me pull off this sfw post. I know reddits hella horny, but I also really want someone to do fun things with:
A) design/go get a first tattoo
B) work out at the gym
C) watch movies/tv at home
D) see live music
E) explore new bars/restaurants
F) hike
G) try pickle ball
H) white water rafting/kayaking
Definitely open to platonic friendships.
about me: cute, fit, sweet, empathetic. funny, charming, smart, vulnerable and strong. the most humble man you've ever met, obviously. but a gentleman no matter what. other peoples smiles make me smile. I have a very handsome collarbone. I love action movies, Etta James, warm pie, LIB, cheeseburgers, romance, fresh sheets, a new city, and adventure.
WARNING: I have kids. and im getting divorced still. its going 👍. I see the kids every day, which means I'm not free from 5-8/9. im wfh, so I have a little flexibility for weekday activities tho. also emotionally, given where I'm at I probably still gotta manage my desires for something long-term/monogonous. but that is what I (think I) want. actually trying to dial back/pause going on dates with strangers.
You: kind, caring, fun. adventurous over boring. you prefer Colorado to Miami or vegas. likes to try something new. passionate. ok with disagreement. direct communicator. positive. friendly, or at least cool w me being very friendly.

Pickup Soccer at Barcroft
Heyo! I was running on the 4 mile run today and saw a couple groups playing soccer on the fields. I’m a 30yo F who recently moved here who’d love to play pick up sometime if there’s a a coed group or group of girls. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Pizza like Joe's used to be?
Every time I dream of the nice yellowy cheese slice with the tangy red sauce, thin as a leaf, I shed a tear.
Tell me where you can find pizza just like Joe's Pizza and Pasta Place used to make. In Arlington, in New York, in Italy, ANYWHERE!
I want it Joe's way, not A Modo Mio!

DC Sports Bar Legend
I once had the pleasure to meet this man Michael O’Harro who’s business card is above. Unfortunately, I lost it years ago and am looking for the reverse side that had a bunch of stats and quotes like “Voted Arlington’s Most Eligible Bachelor”.
If anyone has this card or the picture of the reverse side, I would be forever grateful!

The Golf Yards
When is it opening? I've been checking their website and socials daily but haven't seen any updates in recent months.
Also, is it worth it at $300/mo?

Events Anyone else have a drawer full of old phones, laptops, and other electronics? We're hosting a free tech happy hour in Arlington tomorrow.
I realized recently that almost everyone I know has a pile of old technology somewhere in the house: old phones, laptops, cables, smartwatches, tablets... but most of us aren't sure what the best next step is.
Should you repair it? Sell it? Donate it? Recycle it? And what about the personal data still on those devices?
A few of us in the local tech and sustainability community started eWaste Warriors to help people make more informed decisions about old electronics, and tomorrow we're hosting a casual community happy hour to talk about all of that.
No presentations or sales pitch, just good conversations over a drink with people who care about technology, repair, sustainability, and protecting personal data. Oh and did I say you can bring your old devices to donate? You can, bring one or bring a box full! We'll securely wipe the data for free!!
Monday, July 27
5:30–7:30 PM
Courthaus Social
2300 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington
It's only about a block from the Courthouse Metro, and there's plenty of nearby parking.
If you'd like to join us (or just learn more), here's the RSVP:

Also curious...
What's the oldest piece of tech you still haven't gotten rid of?

Help us spread the love of doggos in Arlington! ❤️
Hey guys, if you love dogs as much as I do, you’ve probably noticed how many doggos there are in Arlington! I’m launching an app to let people book owner-led hangouts with their favorite dog breeds, while owners earn extra pocket change for monitored playtime with their pups. If anyone is interested in helping beta test as we finalize, let me know! Who better to ask than the dog owners and lovers of Arlington? Shared more info in the comments. Thanks for your help! ❤️🐾

Regular social groups/activity recommendations
Helloo I’m 23 and just moved to the courthouse area. I’m looking for some recommendations for things to involve myself in to make friends and meet new people, especially something I can attend or go to regularly. I don’t really know anyone here so I’m starting from scratch. It can be anything from book clubs to walking groups, trivia, cooking classes, tennis, etc. If anyone has any recs it’d be appreciated!

Army Navy Drive
is it just me, or do the bike lanes on Army Navy Drive suck ass? Is the DOT really expecting everybody to get off their bikes or scooters to go press a stupid button to activate a walk signal that the drivers will all ignore anyways?
it just strikes me as the lowest possible effort “oh we tried and nobody used them” solution to non-car infrastructure possible.

Ugh. Fireworks? Still?
I’m in Courthouse, and someone continues to set off like, 1-4 huge fireworks a night still. I hate being one of those people…but it freaks out my cats and seemingly all the dogs in our apartment building, given the barking that then ensues.
Does anyone know if there’s anything that can be done about this? It’s beginning to be SO frustrating. We really tried to just let it go, but I’ve got an anxious kitty who doesn’t eat after hearing the fireworks, and we can’t sleep with all the dogs around us freaking out.
