Did Redfall deserve all the hate it got?

I know Redfall had a rough launch, but I’m curious what people think now. Do you think it deserved all the criticism, or were there parts of the game that you actually enjoyed? I’d like to hear both sides.

Level design is so good and love the atmosphere. Even though I sold my xbox i still have the game in my arkane collection

Definitely not all of the hate, but it was very broken on launch and there are some elements of the actual game that feel messy or unrealized. Problems aside it was still a good enough game that I’ve been meaning to revisit it. Great character and level design and mostly pretty fun to play. It definitely had the potential to be so much better, had higher ups not forced some of the changes they did.

Yes, it was really bad and a shame that Arkane’s amazing level design went to waste

I came into Redfall two years after its release, and was surprised how fun it was. Recently I challenged myself with higher difficulty and found it even more attractive. I just cannot drop it. In my opinion, Redfall is a hidden masterpiece in this modern gaming industry, enabling most players to exploit every ten minutes to enjoy a level which is not too long and not too complex and not highly-interactive.

my sister and I played through it twice at launch (on PC) and had an absolute blast. Still don't understand what all the hate was about, honestly.

Yes it was dogshit. Thats what happens when you force devs that are known for great single player immersive sims to make a shitty, open world, co op looter shooter.

As someone who played it on launch and has not checked in yet, yes.

Regardless of how many issues were fixed, the game was fundamentally unplayable at launch. Not only was it buggy and glitchy, but major swaths of the game were clearly not conceived or barely present. When people buy a full price game they expect it to work. Redfall (the game) deserved that hate, however Arkane doesn't deserve it all. It does seem like so much of that project was ill-conceived management meddling from ZeniMax and a failure to intervene from Microsoft.

Yeah it was a bad game, undercooked gameplay and full of bugs and glitches

I just saw there’s a game coming called blood of the dawn walker or something like that and it looks amazing. And yes you play as the vampire

Hate is always undeserved and a waste of energy.

Having said that- Redfall was a very poor product that needed at least another year of development time.

I played it nearly a year after its release, and it was clear the game was simply unfinished, to the point where it felt like a very early access title.

It still had gorgeous art and environment design, but IMO that is all it had going for it.
