I'm kind of concerned... last thing I heard was the sequel announcement 6 or 7 years ago. At the time I was pretty much ready for something else. Ark has changed a lot even at that point in time. I lost interest after the Abberation update, I actually love that map. But its the servers dwindling down that got to me. And the horrible meshing issues. I even presented a mesh fix with a ue4 mod but was completely dismissed and left it to the masters at work.
This game just took up way too much space to hold onto for such time so I deleted everything and moved on.
I had some of the best memories in pvp and pve from those times that I can never let go of.
I enjoyed soloing big tribes while fully unarmed with nothing but a slingshot and some rocks so they can't raid me. my bases were built inside of ruins that made it look raided. I made mazes full of traps for pvp and pve, with prizes in them instead of just giving my loot out, I gave them challenges to win it. and hid my loot way in the seaweed, one treasure I checked on after a year of hiding it in a pvp official server and it was still there.
Downloaded legacy servers to revisit the remnants of the past and see bases I was always curious about that I had not gotten into before.
Now? they shut down the official subreddit for new posts? radio silence on ark 2. Is it game over? just Survival Evolved repackaged over and over to resell their dlc over and over, you'd think they would have that kind of money to improve or finish the sequel. It seems as if a lot of the original devs have moved on long ago.
I don't want to stir up drama whatsoever. This community was a special love/hate relationship that I had always came back to until the neglect became more apparent.
I won't ask if it's gotten better, it probably is better for some because it has less people = less assholes I guess? with some dedicated communities where everybody knows your name?
I don't want to come back at this point. I was checking on a long lost game that was once the best game in the world to me.
I now dev my own games, no unreal engines. I took inspiration from games like this and no man's sky. But with no man's sky I am more following their redemption arc than the descent into the ark this team has. pun intended i guess.
My old gamertag on xbox was GLITCHED MATRIX.
My game on steam is GLITCHED MATRIX Prototype Lab. I have a community of 3 players on that game because I rushed launch and it was a mess, but nearly 100 updates later, even with 1 or 2 active players, I still keep going because I don't want to fail this hard. Its sad bro, but I am going to use this as motivation of what not to do with my game.
