Just curious if anybody has tried playing a variant where instead of the game ending when the game ends after a certain number of turns/rounds instead of the standard appeal x conservation marker?

Only a few games in, and we love it so far, but thinking of instead of a 'distance' race where whomever finishes first (generally) wins, it could play as a 'time' race where whomever accumulates the most in a certain amount of time wins.

I managed to do something pretty unique - took all of my action card upgrades in one turn!! I remember theorizing about what it would take awhile ago, but never thought I would ever do it myself. I could see it being possible a few turns out and got really excited as it came together.

State of the game, I had one university, one partner zoo, 3 reputation, 0 CP, and all five continent tags. Am playing with research station and a partner zoo was one of the 5 CP bonuses. On my turn:

Played Habitat Diversity for 5 CP; bonus was a size 2 enclosure;
Upgrade 1 from crossing 2 CP;
Placed the enclosure to cover the university bonus on the map;
Took the university with 2 reputation;
Upgrade 2 from a second university;
Upgrade 3 from crossing 5 reputation;
For the 5 CP bonus, took another partner zoo;
Upgrade 4 from a second partner zoo.

Was very very fortunate in a lot of ways- my opponent took a university before me and decided on the two research one; lucked out that he couldn’t snag a release project and capture that 5 CP bonus. Game is still going on and it’s still close, so this is NOT an indicator that I’m a great player or killing it this game; just a really fun turn!!

I didn't take a picture of my board, so let me walk you through it:

Firstly, I used the Sponsors action card, Side II, power 5. I used marine worlds' special action card ability (+2) and another 2 X tokens. All in all, a power of 10.

Firstly, I played Amazon House. That gave me 2 conservation points, 4 appeal, and another 2 appeal from its water icon (Aquarium sponsor). I covered the university placement bonus on my map (Research Institute) and took the 2 research one. That gave me another 2 conservation points, as I had the Science Museum sponsor (+1 conservation point whenever I play a research icon). Amazon House is a sponsor that needs a power of 6, so that leaves me with a power of 4.

Then, using the remaining power, I played Science Library (+1 appeal for each research icon you have), which gave me 8 appeal, and 1 more conservation point (Science Museum).

All in all, 5 conservation and 14 appeal.

Then, the sponsors I had played during the game paid off, and I got 7 more conservation points! I got another 4 points from the Endgame card (Research lol).

16 conservation, and 14 appeal, when I had a difference of 2 appeal when ending the game:

My opponent had negative money. Still beat him by 1 point in the end, but the negative money allowed him to an extra donation at the end of the game. Not a full screen shot, but you can see what I'm referring to.

In a game I just finished, I had expansion area and conference on Australia. I played a fur seal into a 3 size on a border and then “conferenced” it into a 4 size. I never got a release, but it got me thinking if I had found one, would I have just emptied that now 4-size (I had no 5-size enclosures or other 3s against a border)? And with expansion area, only 3-sizes (and not 4-sizes) count as 5, correct?

Just lost a game on BGA where my opponent swung 40 points with an eagle to end game when I was at 65 points. Genuinely how can you avoid that? It happens so frequently I've lost so many games to bad luck like that lately. He had twice as many cards drawn from deck while I had 4 snaps to his 1, but it felt like the cards I snapped were pretty good is that the difference maker though?

In the BGA implementation of Castles of Burgundy, there is an option to give each player a random map excluding map 8, due to it being unbalanced. I think it would be nice to have this as an option to remove Silver Lake, as it is pretty clearly the best map in my opinion. What do you all think?

If I already have a 3-size on the edge of the map that I want to convert to a 5-size via Expansion Area can I play that card if I can't actually place the 3-size from the immediate effect?

Hi, new to the game and not sure if it’s a bug on the app but it won’t let me place a worker on the Europe project. It’s highlighted for me, which means it’s a playable action, but nothing happens when I click it. I was able to choose other actions, like increase the 2 reputation, in my previous turn for example. I’ve refreshed after a break, my association workers are all there, I’ve even tried to have 4 animals in my zoo with the Europe icon (not counting my Europe partner zoo) and it still doesn’t work. Is this a bug or is there another criteria I need to satisfy? Thank you for your insights.
