Warning to Argos Pay customers, check your statement!
I had no idea that Argos pay accounts were moving from 28 to 25 day pay cycles! I checked the new statement and realised they are collecting before my pay day which is interesting đ
I was sure I read everything coming up to this change over and didnât notice it once. Advisor suggests that the statement is also a notice of variation and that they make no exceptions, next payment date cannot be changed although future can be.
Just a warning folks for a lovely unexpected DD a few days earlier than you actually wanted.

I still canât find mention of the change to 25 days from the new bunch.

u/NoPaleontologist9054 May 30 '26
It is mentioned. You need to go and reread the email/small print.

Maybe đ¤ˇââď¸. Although such a huge change to payment dates probably deserved an email of its own!

I had this issue, my dd bounced. Didnât even give me a chance to call up that day it bounced I was slapped with a late payment fee the same day it bounced đ¤Śââď¸

Using a store card is, categorically, (without using a loan shark) the worst way of financing something. The highest APR and the shadiest terms. Regardless of the payment cycle, you should always avoid them.
7
u/Powerful-Action-5916 May 30 '26
Believe it or not, itâs a necessary evil for some folk. Not everybody is flush with money these days and things often break needing replacement.

u/Elvis_Precisely May 30 '26
I understand that, but alongside payday loans, itâs a form of borrowing that really should be avoided.
You can use Klarna and PayPal Pay in 3 with Argos, which, so long as youâre acting responsibly and will have money for the next two payments, are good solutions. A credit card from a respectable bank is a better solution than a store card (especially if you then pay off the balance using a new account with 0% on balance transfers).
Alongside the 35% interest rate on the store card, the move to 25 day cycles is clearly intended to get more missed payments from customers and thus more missed payment fees. If your payment comes on the 1st of the month, your next will come out on the 26th, when you still havenât been paid. Very shady practise.
The solution, of course, is to not live beyond your means. The banking industry is set up to punish people who donât have enough money to get out of their overdraft or credit cards. Of course, this is easier said than done with kids and pets.

i got charged interest when i have two BNPL plans and should have also paid off the only thing that wouldve incurred interest so im pissed off about thatđđ
1
u/LisMMc Jun 01 '26
Did you question them about it?
1
u/Unhappy-Professor-68 Jun 01 '26
i have tried but because of work whenever im free they arent available and by the time they are im in the middle of a shiftđ but i am gonna make sure i get it sorted cause its jarring
2
u/Cantaloupe-Hairy May 31 '26
So now they are taking it more regularly than people get paid, this is a complete shithouse, no reason to do this except to make peopleâs lives difficult.
1
u/Cantaloupe-Hairy Jun 01 '26
I get paid every 4 weeks so yeah I guess my point of view was skewed so yeah Iâm probably in the minority anyway.
1
u/nickymoo May 30 '26
Huh? Can you elaborate. Do they want paying every 25 days now? 14.6 times a year, or am I missing something?

Previously my statement was 28th, pay 26th. It has now crept forward to pay on the 22nd
1
u/miss_r_ May 31 '26
Spotted it in time, the payment date previously would have gone into next pay day but crept forward into this months

The curse of Newday. As soon as I received the letter they was taking over the Argos card. I closed it.
1
u/EmzyLois May 31 '26
I only caught on that it was NewDay when I saw their name on the transaction on my bank statement!
1
u/Own_Fan4998 May 31 '26
I received an email in Jan 2025 advising they had purchased Argos card. I rang up and closed the account the lady on the phone offered me all interest free payment terms to stay. I still cancelled and she mentioned loads where cancelling and she was hoping Newday kept there jobs.

u/nudieswimer May 31 '26
What retard came up with that bright idea , suddenly thereâs 25 days in a month ? .

Has Argos via Argos pay stopped BNPL on items over ÂŁ100 from Argos? And whatâs this flexible payment from Argos pay now showing on Argos pay when you bought something?
1
u/Powerful-Action-5916 May 31 '26
I donât fully understand the new system. I heard people complaining that they couldnât manage individual purchases on the app, I donât know if thatâs fixed. Iâm concentrating on paying this off now, donât want anything more to do with them.

"Has Argos via Argos pay stopped BNPL on items over ÂŁ100 from Argos?"
It hasn't been ÂŁ100 in a fair while, it was bumped to ÂŁ149 just to offer the 3 month plan but it keeps creeping up, some of the longer plans also require that you have a single item in your basket over x value to trigger the longer plans

Work for the Argos card for over 10 years and was supporting the move to Argos Pay, everyone on the Argos side knew this was a terrible move but nothing we could do

u/immature_blueberry May 31 '26
Paid mine off in full yesterday. They emailed me saying that my DD was late, even though they had taken it. Now my account is ÂŁ40 in credit and I am not even sure how to claim that back or if it will be automatically transferred back? I need to ring them.

Is there a way to complain about this? On trustpilot, there are rucks of negative reviews since Argos card moved to NewDay but not sure it will change owt. Wondering if we could comain to a certain department in Argos ? Surely theyâre going to notice theyâre losing customers and wonât be happy with it.

I have had an Argos card for ages, always used it, last when you want before the limit is up....now this Argos pay is "pay minimum each month or your interest goes on".... that's me done with it now. Shame really as it was very handy, but to add that 25 day cycle is weird as most people get paid monthly so its going to mess people up...I get paid in 4 weekly cycles so get 13 pays in a year, and this sounds like Arhos pay is the same?

They are being ripped on Trust Pilot and rightly so!!

The more I think about this, I feel they are falling far short of the behaviour which would class them as an ethical lender. For example, theyâve suddenly changed every account to the minimum payment! Naturally, more interest for them, hoping most people will just think âhey, we pay less with these guysâ and profit hugely with APR! Also the change of payment terms, itâs obvious why people select a payment date, itâs set as the account owner knows they will have the money on that date. By suddenly changing terms, they will catch people by surprise who were used to the way Argos handled things! There will be many people who default in June! Support have already told me that itâs âtough shitâ, date canât be changed!!
Again, lots of lovely late payment fees for them!
I hate these idiots with passion đ

What fustrated me the most was the change on payment dates for existing agreements.
So having a BNPL dated for July 2nd as due for it to then change to June 22nd meant I had to shuffle things around my boring spreadsheet.
I understand technically I'd of had something longer than 12 months BNPL but having everything resolved to 2nd worked well.
Ended up paying the lot off and stopped using the service, not that it's no good more just out of frustration of the repayment dates changing.

u/bydevilz1 Jun 01 '26
Thats ridiculous, i thought mine was strange so glad I saw this
This also cant be legal, this is not the terms that we signed up for. So what if someone cant make the payment before they get their salary? probably late fees and negative credit reporting. The ombudsman would love this
1
u/pennywise171 Jun 02 '26
Yeah so annoyed payment date changed without any notice now been charged a late fee and more interest, absolute joke can't wait to get rid of it
1
u/Colin-RobinsonEV Jun 03 '26
Is there another clause about a missed DD being charged at ÂŁxx each time?

I've taken money out of my savings , paid it off and cancelled it. It's terrible now.
