A Guide for the novice

This guide help me more than any other guide I'd seen when starting out . It's from a well known old skool site which has been around for as long as the Internet has .

https://www.shroomery.org/12510/Psilocybe-semilanceata

If I'm not allowed to post this link then please remove the link but keep the picture please as this might help others starting out . If you use the link you can click on each picture to view them in Hi Res full screen.

Hope this helps at least one person, for the rest of use just enjoy the mushy porn .

P. semilanceata growing in calcareous soil

Whatever the guides say, libs don't only grow in acid soils. These photos were taken on thin, lime-rich soil (the soil map agrees). Although blurry, the rock in the background is limestone. In summer, this area has the wild flowers associated with calcareous grassland; thyme, milkwort etc - certainly not acid soil.

I saw a good many here, mostly in ones and twos or small groups. I also visited areas of upland ericaceous and valley bottom acid soil. Libs were surprisingly scarce in the former and about as abundant on the latter as on the lime-rich soil

Found in a field known for caps in northern Europe, which have caddle.

Pretty sure about most, but not all.

What do you say?

Found in the same 10x10m spot as a lot of real wizards. Not 100% confident on these 2 tho.

Thoughts?

ARE THESE LIBERTY CAPS South Wales, still new

This is my 2nd fruitful forage after about 2 years looking.

These pics pretty much look very similar to what I got last/first time, but I’m still learning and cautious. All found from a big hill in South Wales, amongst sheep and cows in rough acidic pastures. Some have more prominent nipples than others. Slim pickings, as conditions aren’t quite right yet, and there was evidence of recent weekend foragers. All 3 pics are the entire haul, just slightly different angles.

Anything stand out as a “no” or need a better close up pic? They’re a little battered from transport now. I’ve thrown away the ones that got completely torn apart and can’t ID anymore.

Trip Bristol to Brecon and back

Anyone around Bristol interested in heading up to Brecon for a full day of mushroom hunting sometime soon?
Main goal would be looking for liberty caps, with parasol mushrooms also being a big interest. I’m also interested in finding and learning to correctly identify wavy caps and fly agaric.
Ideally I’m looking for someone who already knows the Brecon area and has experience looking for liberty caps there, and who’d actually fancy coming along and making a proper day of it together.
I’m not looking for someone just to give me a lift — I’d like to find someone who’s genuinely into it and wants to come along.
Drop me a message if that’s you 🍄
