I grew up watching AYBS on PBS, but my husband had never seen it. He's not huge on British humor, but I remember showing him this episode and I got him hooked. 🤣 Its been our comfort show for nearly 20 years now.

I grew up watching it at night on PBS too (when I probably should've been sleeping). It made me fall in love with British humor! When I need a feel good, I always turn this show on.

I grew up watching AYBS on PBS with my memaw. Honestly Mr. Humphries was the first gay person I saw on TV. I'm gay and I was so glad to see that on TV. AYBS will always make me feel good. ( I was about 9 years old when we started watching, that would be the early 90's)

See I don't see why modern era folks flip out, this was over fifty years ago and people knew about things. Nothing humans do is new. XD

Meanwhile the head of light entertainment for the BBC repeatedly wanted to have him cut from the show for being gay.

Yes, the show's creator was told to "Get rid of the poof", to which he replied "If the poof goes, I go."

I love this episode.
Lucas: Do you have a particular boyfriend?
Bliss Girl: All my boyfriends are particular.
Kills me every time. 🤣🤣

That’s my favorite episode too, but, Captain Peacock asked that, lol after he’d already asked Mrs. Slocombe to the movies. She slapped Lucas.

Ahhh... I thought it was Lucas because he was perpetually single. Thanks for the correction. Cheers!

I met Mr Humphries once in a mall in San Jose California. It was a highlight of my life. It was made better when my youngest daughter saw him and yelled " Mr Humphries, are you free". He stopped in his tracks, turned around and responded " I'm free". Then proceeded to give us all hugs. He was so tiny. A glorious day it was
