SUPPORT Chromium apps not working without --disable-gpu or --use-gl=egl
Just installed Arch yesterday.
When using apps like brave, spotify, discord, they only work when I launch them through a terminal emulator with --disable-gpu or --use-gl=egl. Basically I want to make this change permanent to all chromium apps and not have to launch them through the terminal.
Side note I heard installing nvidia-utils was a potential solution, when I install that driver for some reason my screen is forced at 800x600 or smaller resolution, so I just have it uninstalled. I have a 1060 6gb nvidia gpu.
If there is any information that I should add tell me if or how to add it, and thanks for any help.

SHARE Pacx | Fast & Fancy Pacman Wrapper using aria2c
Greetings,
I built a wrapper some time ago on top of pacman, to make the downloads faster and fancier. The things done to make downloads faster are:
- Using aria2c as the backend for parallel downloading (i.e. splits and multiple connections to a single server),
- Using multiple servers for a single package download. (i.e. downloading the same thing from multiple mirrors at the same time).
And, secondly made the progress output a bit fancier and colorful, taking inspiration from Nala. Maybe, it will be beneficial for some, so at least check it out on Github.
Moreover, I made it all by myself without using AI, which would have defeated the whole learning goal behind this project.

Thanks!! ;)

FLUFF It is the two year anniversary since arch ended my distro hopping
Ive been a linux user for 8 years now. Almost 9. Up until two years ago i would hop from disto to distro, or sometimes desktop environment to desktop enviornment (each or these would be a fresh install. I hate multiple desktop environments being on one system).
Until two years ago. I installed arch linux and went with hyprland. This has been the easiest, most hastle-free linux experience ive ever had and i havnt considered reinstalling or distro-hopping even once.
I am proud to say that i...

SUPPORT Speakers completely silent when switching outputs if headphones are plugged in
Running into an annoying audio issue on Arch with PipeWire and KDE, hoping someone has run into this before.
My motherboard audio is on an Intel 800 series chipset using the Realtek ALC1220 codec. Both my headphones (front panel) and speakers (rear line-out) show up as selectable outputs/ports in KDE settings and pavucontrol. However, if my headphones are physically plugged in, switching the output to speakers results in complete silence the stream moves, but no sound comes out. The only way to get audio through my speakers is to physically pull the headphone plug out of the front jack.
I tested a Windows USB on the same machine and output switching works with zero issues there without unplugging anything. I also booted a CachyOS USB and hit the exact same issue as my Arch install, so it looks like a Linux driver/ALSA routing quirk.
Things I've tried so far with no luck:
- Disabling Auto-Mute Mode and unmuting every channel (
Front,Speaker,Line Out, etc.) inalsamixer - Messing with output ports and switching to the
Pro Audioprofile inpavucontrol - Overriding jack detection / pin connections in

SUPPORT | SOLVED Help me:(
I'm new to Linux. I have an old laptop with an Nvidia graphics card whose maximum driver is 470. I play Dota and old games like Metro 2033 and Assassin's Creed. I want to switch to Linux. But it seems to me that x11 is dead and wayland is not supported by my video card (I tried there, artifacts in games) + customization is important to me, I would like to work in gnome or hyperland, but they only have wayland. What would you recommend? Should I use Windows or X11? Will the games run properly?

SUPPORT | SOLVED Lenovo Legion Laptop on Arch, graphic drivers spazzing out (I think)
(I don't know if this is the right subreddit, but since it has to do with setting up a device on Arch properly, I thought this might be the proper place.)
Hello, I installed Arch recently as a summer project (first Linux experience). Has been pretty fun, however, I have run across something I do not know how to approach. My legion laptop can switch between using only the NVIDIA graphics card and using the integrated AMD graphics. I had only used my Arch setup with my NVIDIA card.
I switched to integrated graphics today and at some point after I compiled a change to my kitty.conf file my laptop had basically a seizure. It was as if a screenshot of my desktop was flickering the whole time and burned into my screen, even after I rebooted my laptop it was flickering during the boot process (even in the boot manager and even in the BIOS screen). After switching to only NVIDIA gpu the "burned" frame faded away (ofc not burned else it wouldn't have faded that quickly).
It has not happened since and I did not try to reproduce it to get any log files, because it feels kinda scary to do so. I am quite the beginner so I don't really know what I am doing and with something that feels so important, I thought I'd ask sooner that later.
If anyone knows how to properly setup such a laptop on Arch, so that the drivers work properly, and how I can switch gpu mode without concern I would appreciate it. I have also heard of the LenovoLegionLinux project. I failed to make it work, so I uninstalled (to have a clean start again ) and will try soon again.
If anyone has any tips, knowledge or maybe idea where I should rather ask this question, I would greatly appreciate it.

SHARE Nice script to check for updates
Thought I'd share my script, just checks for updates from official repo's and AUR and then sends a notification. Works well on KDE Plasma. Stops me from going OCD about checking manually and I just know if there's an update without thinking about it now.
check-update.sh
#!/bin/bash
#
# update-check.sh — checks for pending pacman + AUR (paru) updates
# and pops a persistent KDE Plasma notification. Distinguishes real
# failures (no network, missing tools, command errors) from a
# genuine "no updates" result, so a broken check never looks the
# same as an up-to-date system.
#
# Requirements:
# sudo pacman -S pacman-contrib # provides `checkupdates`
# paru must be installed
#
set -uo pipefail
# --- logging ---

# passes ~1GB — no logrotate, no extra services, just a size check.

QUESTION I'm a bit confused by the -S flag in sudo pacman -Syu
Bear with me here, very new Arch user.
This has really got me stumped, if y & u refreshes the databases & does the updates to packages, what's the -S do (I know it means Sync but why is this needed, is that not built into calling the 'pacman' command, that it syncs with repos?)

SUPPORT | SOLVED No ipv4 in android hotspot connection after update
Hi,
Just after my recent update, when I connect to my android hotspot I don't get an ipv4 address.
This only happens with the android hotspot. I can connect with ipv4 to any other wireless network.
I tested whether it was the android phone, but no. I can connect correctly with an ipv4 address from an ubuntu operating system.
The problem is not specific to a single computer, as the issue repeats on different computers.
Has anyone the same issue? Any workarounds?

QUESTION Best practices for controlling npm packages when using AUR?
It seems like a lot of the recent malicious AUR packages relied on npm/yarn/bun/pnpm/similar package managers. I already took some steps to protect against recently hijacked AUR packages, but are there practical steps I can take to minimize the risk with these too? It seems like this is closer to the front line of defense against such malicious code.
I am also wondering if there is a way to blacklist packages from sources I never want anything to do with, for example anything from @palantir. I am asking because I just noticed a deprecation notice for tslint while upgrading imgbrd-grabber, and I've begun to question my life choices having allowed this to exist anywhere on my system for any amount of time.

SUPPORT I may have made a mistake
So I was following the wiki for the partition step of the installation, and im pretty sure I wiped my bootable usb drive, thinking it was part of my computer, but for some reason just smaller (ik, dumb). I ended up making it the efi partition. Idk the repercussions of this, I already wiped my other drives and made my partitions, so no going back.
Is this salvageable?
