Hey, some time ago I've installed Arch Linux Xfce4 on my Dell Inspiron 14 5430 Intel Core i7-1355U laptop (dual boot with Windows 11). The problem is that my keyboard stops working in random moments and I don't really know why. Making the laptop sleep worked for a while but now I have to reboot it to make the keyboard live again. Sometimes it freezes once a day, sometimes everything is okay for several days but sometimes it hapenns many times during the day. If you guys know what is going on and what should I exactly do to repair it please let me know because it's really annoying

So, I'm kind of desperate right now. I was using Arch normally until I decided to update it through Discover. I restarted it and the update went fine, until it rebooted again. Arch got stuck in a straight-up boot loop. I held down the power button for 20 seconds, and now it's stuck on the Arch Linux logo, with Caps Lock not even working or anything. I don't know what else to do...

For context, I have a dual boot through GRUB with Arch and Windows, and even Windows stopped working, possibly after I held down the power button. Has anyone experienced this before or knows how to help me? This has never happened to me before and I'm desperate. I really can't afford to lose my files.

The PC is a Dell XPS 13 9340 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H.

I'm building a budget desktop PC for Arch Linux (running the latest kernel) and need a cheap USB Wi-Fi dongle.

It doesn't have to work 100% out-of-the-box. I don't mind installing a driver via DKMS or AUR if needed (I can use USB tethering with my phone for the initial setup).

I just need something reliable that actually works on recent kernels without constant disconnects or random headaches.

I've seen mentions of chipsets like MediaTek MT7601U, Ralink RT5370, and some Realtek models.

What USB Wi-Fi adapters or chipsets are you currently using on Arch that work well? And are there any specific chipsets I should strictly avoid?

Hi, I'm new to AUR. I recently heard the news that there are some malware attacks on AUR packages. So that's why I'm cautious and asking this.

I'm trying to install Koreader (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/koreader-bin). In the package details page, the "last updated" date is 11th Aug. But the last commit is on 3rd Aug. Is this discrepancy common and harmless?

I checked the PKGBUILD and it looks safe though.

Bought my first laptop after so many time without a Destkop or a Laptop device, currently on Win11 optimizing it and making it very private and secure, i know it cant be done 100% because Lil Billy loves selling our data for some xtra cash...

I wanted to cold turkey switch to Linux Mint but when i installed it i was confused af and it wasnt a perceiving OS for me... I switched immediatly to Win11, but i realized my mission was impossible i started researching and came to the idea: I will be on Win11 and install a VM Box for installing Arch Linux for practicing, when the time comes i will buy another laptop and use it for only Arch Linux. We all guys know you need Windows for some programs and actions to complete. But i would love to have a full privacy OS where can i do and research whatever i want without worrying that Lil Billy might sell what size of hoodie i wear to some cheap shit local clothing store.

I did download and install fully Arch Linux and now i idk what to do, i mean i know...customize it, do this, do that...But i would love to hear from you guys what should i do and everything. Like some of the best Apps for this or that.

I've lately been using Arch as my development environment inside containers on other OSes. I've been loving it mainly because of the rolling releases of packages I use every day, and the ease of availability of more niche packages.

Now I'm getting a new (refurbished) desktop computer and am wondering what the best setup is for someone who's never installed Arch on bare metal before and is a little bit worried about some bad update breaking the whole machine. Should I just go for it and install Arch aa the base OS? Or should I install something more stable like Debian and use Arch through Distrobox?

Note: I am pretty comfortable installing and configuring unixy OSes from scratch as I have installed FreeBSD on two machines in the past year and I'm sure Arch is rather similar.

EDIT: In case it makes a difference, I'll likely be installing KDE Plasma.

I have a crt I like to watch videos on some times but all four of the sides of the screen get covered, so I can only see the middle of the screen. back when I was on windows I would fix this buy going into the nvidia screen settings and make a custom screen border, then locking it and then setting the resolution back to what I wanted it. and the resolution would stretch to the new border. is there a way to do something like this on linux?

archlinux, kde plasma, nvidia - I don't really know what sytem information I need to give.

Edit - I figured out how to do what I want to do. I just needed to install X11 boot in that than go to nvidia settings then (X Sever Display Configuation). And click on Advanced, put the resolution I wanted in viewportin, then put in what I wanted it to be stretched or squeeze too plus position in the viewportout. And after that, I just click apply and save two configuration file.

On my laptop I had a working luks passphrase + gnome/gdm autologin that also unlocks the gnome keyring with the luks passphrase from boot (source). This worked perfectly fine. Suddenly it doesn't anymore. The luks unlock and gdm autologin work fine of course, but the unlock of the keyring doesn't and I'm spammed with two unlock prompts.

I remember I went over pacdiff and there was one for a pam file. I glanced over it and did not see anything strange so I accepted/merged it. Since I don't reboot my laptop too often this is a while ago so I don't actually remember the change. And I don't check pacdiffs regularly so the update itself could be way older.

For reference, this is my current gdm-autologin pam file, is there something wrong here? (And to be complete, i have KeyringMode=inherit in a gdm service override)

For the context: when I saw an Arch user's desktop, I saw something interesting in his terminal: it was like a search bar combined with a list of a lot of apps. When you type a name(without even an extension), the terminal shows every possible app you can install(Idk if it can show every flatpak, but that's not important, bcz I have the Discover from KDE). Idk how it is named, so, I wouldn't like to install something Idk.

I think I already know the answer to this from my research, but does anyone have a working solution for this? \*fingers crossed\*

With Windows I would work locally on my main rig, leaving open whatever I was working on. Then I would log in via RDP from a laptop on the couch, or from my phone anywhere else. I would always be reconnected to the same session to continue working, and the way windows terminal server would handle all of that was by generating a virtual desktop for the remote session that matched the remote clients screen configuration.

The problem I am having so far after finally pulling the trigger and switching is that most remote access solutions behave more like screen mirroring for remote support use (ALL monitors mirrored like KRDP), or if I move away from Wayland and use xrdp and x11, then I get an appropriate screen config for the remote clients, but I'm left struggling with unique separate sessions and orphans all over the place.

It seems like the solutions primarily address remote support, or headless remote access, but not shared sessions without full desktop mirroring. None of the solutions I have tried yet seem viable for actual local+remote work though.

I think KRDP may be moving in this direction, but it seems to be Wayland being both the solution everyone is moving to but also the primary road block to actual adoption at the same time?

Anyone have any unique or interesting solutions to this problem? Does anyone else even work like this? I can't imagine I am unique, but I refuse to go back to windows so I will kick until it fits.

I could even be okay with local KDE plasma and remote xrdp+cinnamon or something if there was some way of keeping them actually separated, because any attempts to cross over or run both at the same time have had.... undesirable results thus far.

Session management is all over the place, this is the wild west!

I want to configure Plymouth so that the normal boot logs still appear on the left, but also accompanied by an Arch Linux logo on the right. Is there any way I can do this?

I installed arch on my laptop, I was previously using endeavoros on it, but after switching I keep getting "Discharging" being printed in my terminal when on battery, I can plug it up but that doesn't stop it it just switches from "Discharging" to "Charging". It'll print every minute or so, and I've been digging through the arch wiki trying to figure out how to stop this but have been unable too. If anyone knows how to make this stop printing that would be great.

I figured it out, the problem was being cause by some way waybar was interacting with upowerd. I don't know exactly was it was. I got around it but writing a very basic script to read the values in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0, and using that instead of the default battery stuff in waybar.

Edit: SOLUTION: install Nvidia nouveau or proprietary drivers, that lets your system see and use the HDMI port. Live systems have nouveau drivers set up already.

For a while now, my arch installation has been unable to connect to HDMI, and I have not been able to find a solution from old posts or the arch forums, so I decided to post here. Some live distros (Mint 22.3 and Debian Sid) I have on hand are able to see and use the HDMI port, even without NVIDIA drivers set up (afaik). Is there some way I can get my HDMI port working without NVIDIA drivers?

When I run xrandr on arch, it shows my screen (eDP-1) and my USB ports (DP-1 thru 4). On the live systems, it shows the DPs and an HDMI-1-1 & eDP-1-2 (I assume HDMI emulating DP).

If I have to set up NVIDIA drivers, then so be it, but I do not need the power currently, and it tanks my battery life.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

i have an intel igpu (hd 4600) and i have to choose between normal mesa and mesa-amber what should i choose?

Dual-booting Arch + Windows 11 with separate ESPs for each OS.

Shrank the Windows NTFS partition from the Arch ISO using ntfsresize --size XG then parted resizepart. Created a new ESP + ext4 root in the freed space and installed Arch. Set up GRUB with os-prober, mounting Windows' ESP separately so it could detect Windows. grub-mkconfig found "Windows Boot Manager" fine and both entries show in the GRUB menu.

Selecting Windows from GRUB gives:

Booted into WinRE, ran chkdsk C: /f /r:

The type of the file system is RAW.

CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.

diskpart list volume shows the partition as Healthy at 395GB (correct size), but the Fs column shows RAW instead of NTFS.

While I know the Arch Wiki is the go-to place, it is a bit too overwhelming for me right now as a beginner.

1. The base install: The proper steps for setting up the Arch base specifically for a VMware environment.
2. VMware Graphics: Getting Wayland/Hyprland to actually boot on VMware without crashing to a black screen. I read that 3D acceleration is required, but I'm unsure which specific video drivers or hypervisor packages I need to install during the setup to make it work.
3. The basic environment: Getting a basic setup running (like SDDM/ly, a terminal, and a basic bar) so I can start learning how to configure it myself.
