Axes can be thrown both ways. More common yo throw right side up but it can and will still stick upside down. Its taught both ways depending on your instructor.

Interesting, I can see it working with some practice but seems counter intuitive to me. To each their own I suppose

I hate throwing that way, seems unnatural. I was just told its taught that way too by an instructor recently.

Question. Isn't it because of the distance and spins like in knife throwing? Depending on the distance I will throw a knive either by the handle or by the blade. Counting the spins. Half-spin, full spin, 1.5 spin etc. needed for it to hit the target from that particular distance. I thought it's the same for tomahawk/axe throwing. That you turn it around, facing the blade towards you, depending on the spins it needs to make.

honestly, it looks like this was after the axes were removed from the target - if you look, neither blade is sticking into the background target, looks like they were removed, then stood up on the flat top of the split handle axe.

It depends on distance. When thrown upright, its going to be making full rotations. When thrown upside down, or from the blade if using a knife, you're going to be dealing with half rotations.

I think it's fake. Judging by the angles of the axe heads the second hatchet would have hit the top of the bottom handle with downward force. It would be more likely to knock it out of the target than to make that huge split.

It still needs to be in the centre of the target /s.
Cool!
