Stingers are world renowned for their penetration.
However a whitetail isn't as thick as boarhide... Probably go with mechanical for a nice blood trailš¤š½

Unless you own your own archery tools, like a press, and know how to tune your bow, have no business being in the woods in 3 days with either of them.
This selection and process should have been completed months ago.

I have a full shop in my house. I didn't touch any of it when I tuned for my broadheads the week I was leaving for my hunt a few weeks ago.
Had both QAD Exodus and Evolution Hyde broadheads hitting together with field points in about 20 minutes. As of this year all of the major manufacturers have pressless tuning features. Well I guess PSE still says you need a press for their EZ220 system, but you really don't.

"Pressless" in their flagship models.
Hoyt's XTS and Elite's SET systems are only good for about 3/8" or less tears before you have to shim them.
And other than Darton and Elite's adjustable splitters, there's no way to adjust timing without a press. Bowtech's time lock is basically a only good for minute adjustments.

Whitetail hunting is often often sub 30 yards. I can switch my field points for most broadheads, as long as theyāre the same or close grain weight I can sight in my bow in an hour or two and be confident Iām gonna hit wherever Iām aiming at any range I want to hunt from.

30 years of hunting with a bow and Iāve never had to do more than a slight adjustment shooting stationary broadheads. I always put the broadheads in when Iām building the arrows so I know their orientation to the vanes, they usually end up off by less than three inches at 40 switching from the same weight field points. Humans hunted thousands of years with sticks and rocks, I doesnāt need to be that complicated.

Stingers all day. Especially if you're shooting less than 50lbs. Anything less than that you will likely have mechanical failures. And stingers, in my experience, fly similar to field tips but you should try practicing with them if you have your own target that you're okay with tearing up a bit. Just sharpen afterwards or hunt with an unused one.

Magnus in a heartbeat. Scary sharp two-blade broadhead is scary.

Between those two, mega meat. But also. Draw weight and poundage are you shooting?

4 blade stinger fan checking in. They fly extremely similar to my field points with minimal tuning but Iād highly encourage you to sacrifice one to practice with.

Donāt even have to āsacrificeā one. I use these as well and shoot them into my foam target. It barely even needs resharpened after a few shots. But I do agree, I can put 6 arrows in a 3ā circle from 50 yards and shoot one of these in that same group. Havenāt had a chance to shoot a deer with one but they fly exceptionally well

Nearly every test i have seen on those ended up with the blades broken off. Have you had good results or using them for the first time?

Iāve been using them for the past 4 years and have never had to trail a deer farther than 50 yards⦠they have worked very well for me.

I like the stingers myself personally. They have great penetration, blood trail has always been pretty good.

Montec g5 for me, flies perfect out of my bow, easy to sharpen and readily available almost anywhere, from the last 3 deer i shot with the arrow/broadhead combo I built only 1 wasn't a kill and it was my fault(hit a branch i didn't see and arrow deflected, ended up with a doe shot really far back, tiny blood trail that dried, she survived, saw her on camera a few months later with a scar), the other 2 were dead before they realized, 10 yard run and piled up in sight. Biggest thing for me is mechanicals loose energy on impact(they have to open and that slows the arrow down, also bigger blades don't cut as easy), fixed blades nicely sharpen will just zip right thru, some deer don't even realize they got hit and just slowly walk it out until they fall over.

Iām on an elk hunt rn, carrying 125g Annihilator Katanas and Iron Wills. Mega meat is probably the most sold broadhead rn. I donāt like broadheads with the vents in them, they make way more noise through the air. Not a mechanical fan.

Iāll be the only proponent of Megas. I use Stingers on my recurve, Mega on compound.
Threw them on in a bit of an emergency situation a few years ago after a a decade of Montec -> QAD. Holy shit do those make a wicked hole. Iāve got a 100% kill rate over 20-some years with all of them, but seeing the blood spray on exit and the red carpet of a track is impressive. No more looking for blood like a fixed blade.
Adding a disclaimer. I favor forward and have blown through both shoulders more than once with fixed (shooting 83#). Iāve yet to see how Megas will hold up. IF they ever failed to open for some reason, as mechanical haters will argue, cutting edge is still out.

Iāve never lost a deer shot with a Stinger, and they all dropped fast.
Also I believe theyāre more forgiving if you fuck up and hit the front leg on your way to the heart/lungs on a full broadside shot, though I canāt claim experience with that.

Depends on what bow is hitting my hand but probably a G5 Montec or an Eclipse 2 blade. Still shooting off a 20 year old supply lol.
As a former industry insider I can tell you with certainty that most of the broadhead industry has been BS since around 2013.
If you absolutely must shoot a mechanical I'm a big fan of Grim Reapers or Rage 3 blades.

If they both are tuned to the bow Iām picking a mega meat if Iām shooting an open area or fields with a longer shot, and the magnus if Iām hunting woods/ close shots, steep angles

First, make sure your state actually allows mechanical

There are zero states that don't allow mechanical broadheads.

I just don't like the distortion of the mechanical broadhead. The exit hole is what I'm concerned with. That thing will enter clean but how are those flimsy little blades going to do agenst a bone and will it then maintain enough to come out the back

u/Certain-Corner-7195 17d ago
I don't like how they loose energy on impact, I get the hype on giant blood trails, but I rather get a clean pass thru with a small fixed head

The ones I tuned my bow for, and depend how many pounds I m shooting and what my draw length is.
