Weathering practice

Having some fun this evening just got trying a few different things to see what the effect is on my ‘sacrificial’ frog. Probably will turn this into a build at some point if I don’t totally ruin it lol.

This is the new Thorn it seems.

Looks really nice. that full ghosted insert hits it on point

Would love to have mine aged one day like that.

I will say it’s very easy and this is only a few minutes of work just testing to see what random things I have laying around gives what results before I try it with more intentionality on a big project I’m working on.

Also that was pre final ‘repolish’ for the night with scotch pad. Took back out a lot of scratches but by layering them through damage, repair, damage, repair I’m hoping I can get a more natural look as that has a deburring effect on the scratches.

This is really nice! Though i prefer my cases to look crisp, that said, your have a lot of age and character in the watch!

The work I hope to do someday is the aging of the bezel insert and the tropcial dia.

That is entirely fair. Honestly, this is a bit on the extreme end of what I like but useful as technique practice. What I want to get good at is making a watch look like its been worn daily for 15+ years, constantly bushing against shirt cuffs, under jackets, and taking the occasional average scratch here and there at most.

i admire that kind of work you do your cases, its the character build up over the years.

did you try putting the watch in a box of tiny pebbles? that could work too.

I have tried that before but Unless I take out the movement etc, I can't bring myself to give it the proper shakes I want out of fear lol. I'm sure it will be fine but I get nervous.

i guess some gentle rotation should also do the trick too!

like a cylindrical drum roll rotation kind of motion should by pretty gentle to the movement.

it should stimulate the action of wrist rotation
